Games That Need Wii U World of Warcraft Talking Point

Games That Need Wii U - World of Warcraft - Talking Point Nintendo Life

Or maybe this one's a game that Wii U needs? by Share: We’ve highlighted the importance of having well-established franchises on Wii U. We’ve also indicated how vital it is for Wii U to be open to new ideas and intellectual properties. This time, we’re saying that in order for Wii U to keep in-line with the competition, exceed it in fact, then it needs to make the first move into uncharted territory. It needs to be doing things that nobody else is doing. Perhaps the game we’re talking about is overly ambitious. Perhaps we’re taking things one step too far. One thing is for sure, nobody can deny that this addition to the Wii U library would make jaws drop and systems sell. MMOs (massive multiplayer online) are an untapped resource in the console space — with the possible exception of Minecraft on Xbox 360 — but World of Warcraft can definitely change that mind-set. It will prove to critics that complex MMO titles are possible on consoles, and that there's more to this system than meets the eye. Thanks to the GamePad, World of Warcraft is a plausible and possible fit on Wii U. Here’s how…
Movement
There are two ways this can work. The left analogue can easily move the character and the right analogue can adjust the camera. We doubt that navigation has ever been an issue in bringing MMOs to consoles. Need to attack an enemy or talk to an ally? Simply tap shoulder buttons to cycle through targets, touch the second screen to highlight the character and then A to interact with them. Roaming NPCs or foes would be fairly easy to tap and then tap again for an attack, or double tap for an auto-attack. With Wii U however, we have options. Another way to control the game would be to combine the use of the Wii Remote with the GamePad. The Wii Remote can easily be used to point, click and move. The nunchuk could then be used to rotate the camera while playing. Meanwhile, the touchscreen would control everything else. This enables a closer experience to a mouse, though perhaps would make for a clunkier interface. Either way, controlling your toon in WoW is no longer an issue.
Interface
The touchscreen presents a wealth of possibilities, but most importantly, makes the combat interface entirely useable and easily manageable. Tap a button to unleash an attack, drag and drop to alternate between different modes of attack and defence, and freely navigate the action bars. This enables the dynamic action that a game like WoW needs and makes it completely possible. This also enables players to access their backpack, move items between slots and equip them to their character. They’ll also be able to look at their achievements, follow the map and track mission requirements, join dungeon queues, look into their guild happenings and get involved in PVP (player vs. player). The touchscreen can also be used to tap and collect items for quests. Perhaps most excitingly, because of the potential touch-screen virtual keyboard, macros are also very achievable in the Wii U Miiverse; once created they can be assigned as hotkeys to make seemingly impossible actions a simple button press away. As long as players become familiar with in-game coding they can, theoretically, do anything they please and then assign it to the D-Pad or a button. What’s more, through Miiverse, players can share their macros, enabling others to download them to their Wii U. This creates an exciting community for sharing and understanding the game in new, amazing ways. This is just the beginning. The touchscreen is so diverse and capable that it opens up the realm of possibility on Wii U where it’s never been achievable on any other home console.
Interaction
A key part of the WoW experience is interacting with people. Interacting with the guild, interacting with strangers. It’s a crucial game element; it can be in WoW Wii U as well. A virtual keyboard has worked on Wii in the past by using the remote, but it’s even easier with a touchscreen. Tap a button to enter a text box, bring up the virtual keyboard and off you go. This can also tie into the Miiverse, making WoW a more social hub than it has ever been, taking screen-grabs, setting up raid chats, getting guilds together, exchanging dungeon strategies, voice chat etc. WoW features party channels in all of its zones and these can be switched between with a screen tap or an assigned button. Want to chat while on the move? With any of the free buttons, WoW Wii U can allow for an assigned button to enable autorun and then type away with the touchscreen.
Quality
WoW is 8 years old and Wii U is as capable as current technology. There’s no doubt, on a technical level, that Wii U is more than capable of the graphical and sound output the PC already enjoys. WoW would run absolutely fine on Wii U, whether it’s a 720p or 1080p standard. Graphics and sound are in no way an issue, so the biggest headache is down to the online infrastructure on the system. If it’s as good as Nintendo suggests it is, then it should be workable, and we know that the system is packing a decent amount of on-board RAM for developers to use.
Potential Wii U Functionality 9 10
There’s a risk that responses in PVP may be far slower than the standard on PC. There’s also a gamble that the very same philosophy could hinder groups in dungeons and raids where timing is everything. Then there’s the subscription scheme. How will that work with Nintendo Network? Would players on Wii U be able to connect to battle.net and converse with PC players? Nintendo says that it’s going to be more open to the needs of the developer and publisher, but would it allow a subscription based system on its network? Would WoW have to be F2P? Would Blizzard agree to that? There are many questions. All are major points, but these things are impossible to answer without extensive playtests or further knowledge. What seems clear, however, is that the Wii U gamepad and the system itself are the ones capable of finally bringing World of Warcraft to consoles. After 8 years the MMO still thrives, but it remains confined to one format. This would present a great opportunity to reinvigorate the brand and attract brand new audiences to its charms; bundle all of the expansions into a Battle Chest edition and this would be an attractive package. It’s a great fit for a Nintendo console and an important package for its library. Is it a gamble? Yes. However, we think many Nintendo owners would welcome this world with open arms. Yet, despite all of this, the idea seems to be a pipe-dream. WoW Wii U will probably never happen, but it absolutely definitely should and we see no reason why it can't work well and control expertly. Share: Comments ) No, and thousands no. The reason why no is because you will be required to get the game card and you have to recharge it on monthly basis, which Nintendo wouldn't want to. It'll never happen. MMOs are lame anyway. Interesting Ideas, if not for WoW but for other MMOs that may want to use the system There is a difference between being able to do something, and being able to do something effectively. Functionality of WOW on the Wii U would fall under the first category. I didn't like WoW very much, way too addictive..
But it could work, not sure the Wii U could run such a massive MMO (hehehe).. nah, of all mmo's in the world, i think that phantasy star online 2 would be much better =) Meh. Never tried this game, and probably never will. I must say, if it DID appear on Wii U, I probably would play it, as long as it had at least 90% of the features and whatever else is going on in that game(expansions). Nintendo just need to make a Pokemon World game for the Wii U, including all regions, pokemon, real time feild encounters, nice environments, and seemlessly infinite gameplay allowing online players to be in the same game real time like those MMO games. Challenging anyone in the world to a Pokemon battle within the game seemlessly is what I think Pokemon fans have always wanted the most since the beginning, so my comment stands. The idea seems miraculous, but has not a snowball's chance in the fires of hell. This entire notion extends hazardously well beyond gameplay. Besides, we've got Dragon Quest X. Booyah. I hate RPGs and MMOs with a passion. No thank you. Nothing I'd care about even if it did happen, I think there are lots of other titles would be a better fit. All I really REALLY want on Wii U is Bioshock Infinite & Portal 2!!! It'll never happen. Good idea though. No. At least, not until the subscription thing goes away. Try Guild Wars 2. It's an MMO with a unique partying system (AKA a whole server is a party) and there is no subscription fee. Granted, it's a PC only title, so that may factor into your decision. A Little More OT: I can actually see WOW working on the Wii U. Granted, if Nintendo allowed Blizzard to use their own servers, WOW on the Wii U could be a very real possibility. I would honestly rather tear my nails out than play WoW. But hey. I swear we went over this a while back when the WoW-on-Wii-U rumor first started floating around. It wound up coming down to patches (Nintendo is notorious for dragging their feet on patches, and WoW has updates and patching like every Tuesday for goodness' sake), lag issues, and the fact that no serious WoW player would touch a console version with a ten-foot pole. not when there are so many available plugins and mods (not to mention devices like mice with ten bazillion buttons for macros during battle) available for the computer version to streamline the experience and help users get the most out of their characters during raids and the like. a Wii U version of WoW would be a novelty at best, and when you tack on the subscription fees... yeah, good luck with that. WoW is starting to die. People are looking for more than just the typical MMORPG that WoW created, and their numbers keep decreasing - so no, I wouldnt say that Wii U needs WoW. oh hell no As a WoW player, I'm not sure how well this particular game would work out. For one I don't think WoW is the type of game Nintendo wants to promote. It can be very addictive, and while Nintendo does release addictive games, (such as Animal Crossing) they are almost always limited in how often you can play the game in one day. theblackdragon has brought up a good point about mods and plugins. The interface screenshot used in this article is using several third-party modifications that are not available in the core game. Even if the Wii-U can access the interface using keyboard and touch screen, it will still be limited compared to the PC version. That being said, I am not against console MMO's. I just don't think WoW is the best example of one that should be on Wii-U. I agree with TBD, a console version of WoW just wouldn't work out. I still say the Wii U needs Dungeons & Dragons, Card Games, Diablo, and RTS games, if we're talking about bringing experiences to the Home Consoles that only the Wii U could pull off, that are usually found in other, less mainstream mediums. I've never really got into the series, but it would be really awesome to try it on the Wii U. I'd imagine that it would cost alot mind, considering subscription fees etc... I say yes please to mmos. Just give me a keyboard peripheral and a headset and I'm all about it. Patches would certainly be something to hold it back since it's Nintendo we're talking about, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want it. Still lookin forward to trying dragon quest x and other RPGs and mmos where I think wii u will shine. Did you catch them sleeping with a teddy bear when you were younger? lol jk. Some RPG's are amazing... but "that is like, your opinion man" - The Dude NO! MMOs arnt needed I'm tempted to play WoW now that you can play as Kung Fu Fighting pandas...but I dunno, I found WoW pretty boring last time I played it. I agree with the majority on here. Nintendo doesn't NEED MMORPGs. It doesn't need to be a console for absolutely everyone. It's doing a pretty damn good job right now as it is. To be fair, I think Nintendo has gone and done an incredible job of designing a system and courting 3rd party developers to make games that they normally wouldn't make for a nintendo platform. So we can all sit here and say, "Nintendo will fail if they don't make {x} game for it..." all we want. But that would be pretty unrealistic... not to mention pretty fan-boy-ish. They're doing a great job right now leading up to this launch. Give them time and room to fill the niches THEY want. They're a gaming company, not Santa Clause. No, just no. No, anything but WoW. I would MUCH rather have PSO2, as it is a superior game. Never played WoW, but I doubt you would have enough buttons on the Wii U game pad, even if a ton of them were on the touch screen.
And I'm with , we need RTS games on the Wii U. Nah this wouldn't be that great of an idea, first the game is mega old n i think if the Wii U does have MMORPG's then they should be made for the Wii U in mind from the off set. Lol....
All I gotta say. Some things just need to stay on the PC. For many reasons. The only mmo's I could be interested in are Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World. Specially the second one. Yeah, it's a little late for a Port, and a game like Dragon Quest X which is made with the Wii U in mind, would probably be better in the end anyways. Haha, everyone has a WoW allergy. It would certainly work well on Wii U and something like it would be fabulous. I am actually hoping Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will scratch this similar itch. The difficulty with WoW right now is that it is pretty mod dependent, as someone else already mentioned. I can't imagine playing it without Deadly Boss Mods or others. There is a better chance that Diablo III will be ported over, given that Blizzard is actually exploring the console scene with that game already. Need League of Legends. Guild Wars 2 is maybe a better fit, though performance could be an issue. At least there's no subscription... League of Legends could work pretty well maybe or a game like it. A League of Legends-like would be dandy. next games that need wii u: minecraft!! and the 3ds running the moble version oh no it doesn't As others have pointed out, the mods alone would be a huge incentive to play on PC over the Wii U. I really don't see this working. I can't imagine there are many people out there itching to play WoW who don't already have a PC capable of handling it. In fact, I can't imagine many people out there taking up WoW for the first time, period. I don't have new subscriber numbers to back me up, but WoW is in a slow decline - I think they're probably just losing existing players for the most part and not picking up new ones. It's still a powerhouse in the MMO space, but I can't see getting it onto the Wii U being a profitable endeavour. So,I could meet Leeroy? No, laughs, no. Warcraft was ruined after Warcraft 3, when I believe it became World of Warcraft. No, it's old!! Nuff said!! Wow I love how maybe 2 people actually read the article. It's not saying that they should bring WOW to Wii U necessarily, just that an MMO might be possible now. That is thanks to the ability to use the gamepad for more complex controls. READ, THEN POST. Try it sometime. I heard that Guild Wars 2 is coming to the Wii U from guildmag.com sometime soon I play with this game for the Wii U.
They need a good RTS game for the Wii U.
We have heard that some kind of Star Wars game is coming to the Wii U its a MMO or a shooting game of some kind this was from LucasArts website and other website too. Maybe they should do better titling then? Because "Games Technically Possible on the Wii U Now" Doesn't sound anything like "Games the Wii U Needs". Not by any stretch of the imagination. you can either discuss the topic at hand or you can take your commentary to the . The choice is yours — TBD Tho series of articles has led me to the conclusion that your logic is "it would be better on Wii U, because Nintendo" Hey all. Ray was deliberately bold with this article, which is a reason we liked it (and why I ultimately pushed to get it up). The point of this series is to look at games that can be enhanced by Wii U and vice-versa, taking advantage of the fact that Wii U's in a position, with the GamePad, to do things that PS3 and Xbox 360 can't. WoW is still hugely popular, so this looks at why it could be possible on Wii U. It's acknowledged a couple of times that this may be a pipe dream, but that it could represent something bold and exciting on the unlikely chance it happened. MMOs in general could be a great fit for Wii U, and some good alternative options have popped up in the comments, but this focuses on the most ambitious of the lot. It's speculative, that's the whole point I wish the main point was remembered: Nintendo has a period where it's doing something not quite possible on the other systems (SmartGlass and Vita-PS3 crossplay are similar, but not as effective yet), so these articles look at hypothetical ways that this can be utilised. Clearly not much of a WoW crowd here, but I think there's food for thought in the concepts being suggested. I don't think MMOs are a good fit for consoles whatsoever personally. The inherent nature of them having a ton of buttons makes it problematic and then you've got connectivity stuff to consider, patching and all the rest. That and I can't see Nintendo backing a subscription service on their console - they only just got in the DLC game remember If WoW came out for the WiiU I'd definitely get it. It's never going to happen though. Generally speaking, Blizzard's attitude when it comes to fan pressure to change something is "ok, ok I give up" and Nintendo is more along the lines of "No hard drive because we know what's best". Not hating on either company; both roads has it's pros and cons. I've been playing the Warcraft games since the first one (Orcs and Humans) and the Wii converted me from Xbox fanboy to Nintendaddict. It's nice to see genuine criticism over "It's not going to work because I don't like it." WoW itself might not work on the WiiU but I think there should be complicated RTS and RPG's for the WiiU's library (examples are Age of Empires for the former and Baldur's Gate 2 for the ladder). I always felt that is something that the Wii was lacking. Red Alert 3 and Batle for Middle Earth 2 didn't feel right with a console controller and I think they would've been translated well onto the Wii. Halo Wars was garbage and Civilization Revolution was too watered down. Eh, I'm not a fan of "Boldness" in articles. Just saying. And out of nowhere, but I'm glad you guys have more staff now. As for controls for the Wii U version, I don't know if anyone's noticed, but WoW is kind of a Nightmare when it comes to its interface. I can see them filling the Tablet screen with Shortcut Bars, Mini-Maps, and status stuff. Perhaps the controller might make navigating those menues easier, and I guess if they're smart, they'll try to split the load between screens. Perhaps this could work on a functional level. It's just that, well, other than that, it really wouldn't make sense to do such a thing. Not from what we know at least. I appreciate your clarification. It's good for you guys to jump in to the discussion that you create. I like to see that. it shows that you're not the seagull that takes a dump on the beach-goers and flies away. My response (#27) really had to do with the tagline of the article, "Or maybe this one's a game that Wii U needs?" In that subtitle, the author is not making a generality about the genre, he's saying the WiiU needs WoW. And he also calls out WoW at the end specifically. My feedback basically said that Nintendo doesn't NEED any one single game or type of game. They are going to do just fine with the strategy they are currently pursuing. And in fact, they've made tremendous strides in trying to finally break into the core market of more mature games. I think they're doing pretty good right now. If they choose to dabble in the MMO arena, so be it. And you're right. The controller would make really good support of it. But the way I took the article was that the WiiU NEEDs this game or type of game. And I just disagree. We can all sit here and say, "Nintendo needs this type of game or that type of game to be successful". But the reality is, they're going to just fine with the direction they're taking. They have tremendously experienced people at the helm of their brands and market development. If they deem they need to break into the MMO market, and you're an MMO fan, awesome for you. If not, there are tons of gamers out there that will be happy with the direction they're taking now. Dragon Quest X enough said! its in place and will be awesome It's a PC MMO and an old and decaying one at that. I refuse to play subscription based MMO's, and I know there are a lot of others that feel the same way. Plus i'm done with Blizzard after the whole Diablo 3 BS anyway. I guess MMO's are going to become more viable on the WiiU, I just don't think porting PC MMO's is the way to go. The gamepad is a unique and interesting device, and I think the MMO's and games of all genres that will be the best on the system, are the one's that utilize the tech from the ground up. Too difficult to do this, and not much point really considering it's pretty much on its last legs. I thought it looked kind of cool. OK, Minecraft is in no way an MMO. Just sayin'. I haven't had anything to do with WoW ever since I saw a friend of mine get sucked into it. I'd go over to his house and he'd just sit at his computer while I looked at Pokemon cards. It was pretty sad. : MMORPGs do not cause people to throw their lives away any more than Grand Theft Auto causes a child to kill their classmate. If your friend got sucked into MMORPGs enough that he was neglecting the rest of his life, that's an issue he should work on. Don't blame WOW or Blizzard for his addiction. As far as WOW on the Wii U, I seriously doubt it. At least not in its current form. I could see a more scaled-down MMORPG working quite well; much better than other consoles have been able to do things previously, certainly. The problem is not just the interface, but that console gamers are usually expecting something more streamlined while MMORPGs and the more hardcore PC games tend to be more complex and deep. Still, I would be interested in seeing an MMORPG done right on a console. The only attempt I'm aware of is Phantasy Star Online and that failed because they wanted you to hook a freaking keyboard up to your console. A proper console MMORPG would keep the massive world, lots of content and plenty of interpersonal communication and cooperative gameplay while simplifying the controls and gameplay to fit better in the console realm. With the Wii U gamepad, a whole lot of possibilities are certainly opened up. However, I have to categorically say no to the idea of Wiimote + Gamepad control. If you have to put down one controller to pick up another you have failed to provide a good experience.
Uh, you obviously missed the point of what I said. I was simply recalling how one of my friends grew more interested in a game than me and a few other friends. I never said he threw his life away. I was never really that interested in it anyway, but losing a friend didn't help its case.
Anyway, I really don't care if this game is brought onto Wii U or not. If so, that's great, but I'll have nothing to do with it. Your reaction to him enjoying a game a lot probably tipped him off. Because that's a pretty extreme reaction. Most people see their friends liking something and go: "Oh hey, maybe I should try it, too!" But instead you're saying: "Man, I should stay away from this!" WTF, man? You afraid of enjoying it or something? Otherwise that usually means: "Man, he got obsessed with it! I should stay away in case I get obsessed with it too! I don't want bad things to happen!", which is more reasonable, but implies that WoW was the cause of his obsession. Just like everything else its the person and how they let it WoW consume them. I know people that will play for 2 to 3 days straight but that doesn't keep me from enjoying it a few hours a night. With that said as much as I would like to see WoW or any MMO for that matter come to the Wii U I just cant see playing it on a touch screen rather than a keyboard and mouse, but thats just me. I would just keep playing it on my PC but it would be a nice choice for others who want to play but dont have or want a PC. As a MMO vet and a WoW vet with over 400 days of playtime, I honestly don't think WoW will work well on anything but a mouse and keyboard due to the input. Even though the Wii U offers much more in terms of input options for MMO's then any other console out there, the fact of the matter is using the touch pad to access the bars would be similar to clicking the bars with your mouse and not using the keys or a gaming mouse. Ultimately it will gimp players making them vastly slower at being able to respond to things as well as it would make players on the Wii U easy kill targets in PVP. WoW and games like it that use the bars rely on keybindings and without them, you can never really get everything out of the game. Did we learn nothing from the massive failures that were Phantasy Star Universe and Final Fantasy 11? MMOs are lame and only get worse on consoles. How about just regular Warcraft? I HATE WoW!
Give the Wii U Warcraft 3 or Starcaft 2. I still think this 'games that need wii u' title is funny Sorry to say that business about Guild Wars 2 being on consoles was an April fools joke. Check the date: The problem with PC games is they tend to be built around the platform with mods and lots of commands, WOW is a good example here. They already use subscriptions for DQX and MH in Japan and we don't really need WOW if Wii U gets games like those imo. PC gamers can also be pretty hardcore when it comes to these sorts of games, not only taking them very seriously but also putting console players to a huge disadvantage. Most wouldn't even consider switching platforms. I was captivated by this dreamy idea, maybe the touchscreen solves the need to be close to the screen for the user interface.
But i have a better idea, World of Pikmin, or at least we have Pikmin 3 now. no... just no Dragon Quest X will hopefully make it to the West. I'm not holding my breath, though. My bro got Guild Wars 2 and LOVES it! GUILD WARS 2 ON WII U PLEEEEEEZ! It'll never happen unless Dragon Quest X blows people away and is a hit. Guild Wars 2 is a great fit. No monthly subscription fees. Plus, there are platforming elements in GW2 that would be a perfect fit for a console. (freaking Clocktower jumping puzzle....arrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhhh) I don't want it. Super Smash Bros: The MMO **drops the mic**
**picks up mic again** co-produced by Masahiro Sakurai and Shigeru Miyamoto **drops the mic again**
BACK OF THE BOX:
Utilizes whole catalogue of characters from the entire Nintendo Universe (including legends from Capcom, Konami, Rare, and NamcoBandai) with locales mashed together from the Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule, Onett, DreamLand, DonkeyKong Country, and beyond. Oh yeah, Astroboy and Speed Racer also get licenced and thrown into the mix after the first year, with potential future updates to include other licences like Street Fighter and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Scrooge McDuck... For all that is holy in the name of taking all of my money make this happen. My Party Preference:
MONK: Little Mac from Punch-Out (with upgrade-able gloves, sneakers, and shorts)
WARRIOR: Ness (with baseball bat upgraded to Link's Master Sword and backpack upgraded to increase inventory capacity)
TANK: Donkey Kong (with upgradeable tie)
DARK MAGE: Kirby (with everything imaginable customizable)
WHITE MAGE: Princess Zelda (nothing more needs to be said here)
THIEF: Solid Snake (or Fox McCloud) **proceeds to stare at the wall in silence until this game becomes a reality and slips deeper and deeper into the space madness**
Maybe I'm not making myself clear. He started playing the game. I was younger and not interested much in computer games (plus my dad wouldn't let me, which was fine). Every time I came over to his house, he would play WoW and ignore me/try to convince me to start playing it. I saw him less and less then. So no, it wasn't entirely the game's fault, but I probably never would play it even if this hadn't happened. I'd like a good mmo, but their setup needs to change a bit. You need to be able to enjoy progress, uniqueness, environment, fun - without investing half a life and a liver in terms of time and health. If difference is worth more than hierarchy in an mmo, lots of people will probably enjoy it. It is something like this I hope the wiiU will be getting. Oh well. I'll be playing monster hunter tri ultimate online a lot anyways StarCraft 1 and 2 Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad. Phantasy Star Universe makes WoW look slow-paced and boring, and Final Fantasy XI actually offers an interesting story and Class variety, with sub-classes you can switch without making a brand new character. And all three games are still tedious, boring exercises in endless level grinding. What's your point? My point is that I thought you were saying they were worse than WoW, but I see you're just a general MMO hater. I have nothing more to say to you. I would pass on WoW for the Wii U and would rather the focus be on a new title from Blizzard being an MMO or whatever. In my opinion something newer than WoW would be more impressive. Also, how is Minecraft an MMO? Especially on Xbox, i thought you could only get like 5 people on a server. I've read the article AND all comments carefully and as with all the other "games that need Wii U" articles, people seem to categorically miss the whole point. To me it is VERY clear that the title/monicker alone CANNOT be misread for anything other than HOW a GAME could benefit from being run on the Wii U, NOT the other way around. The title does NOT mean that the Wii U desperately needs these games, so comments like 'the Wii U doesn't need MMO's' and such are actually quite silly and only show that you didn't get the point.
I'm not saying this to insult or bash anyone, I'm just so surprised that practically no one seems to understand that, as I've only seen 2 or 3 commenters that seem to actually be aware of that. As for my two cents on the topic of wanting WoW on Wii U, I'm also tempted to be critical and go with the nay sayers, because I don't like the game, but not because the game couldn't benefit from being on the Wii U. The patches/updates would probably be a thing, but the comments about 'a better experience on PC because of keyboard and mouse' are ridiculous.
Even game mouses with macros and such can be emulated on the pad, same as the keyboard, but of course you could even expand upon that by using an actual keyboard alongside the Wii U Game pad. A gamepad in general has more buttons than a mouse, and that combined with an interchangeable display, were at the touch of a button you could switch to another screen would easily make up for not having PC controls.
If your comment was based on liking PC controls better, then you should have just said that, but they are not better for a FACT, because they can easily be emulated/reproduced on Wii U. So to conclude, seeing as the article theorises that WoW could benefit from being on Wii U, my thoughts on the ACTUAL question that you should ask yourself would be yes. (although not a very resounding one) Even if I liked WoW, or supported the idea of a monthly subscription game (I refuse to pay X-Box's $60 a year already, screw them), which I don't, MMO's simply don't work on on console, which is why none of them are on console. Even if you simplified the controls, the bigger issue would be the need for the developer to pay the console company money every time they wanted to patch the game, which for MMOs is often, often. Having a game on PC means you have 100% control over everything at all times, no console company to pay or negotiate with. It can happen but I would rather see a brand new mmo instead of an 8 year old mmo. I love WoW and I am a monthly subscriber, but - no. This will definitely not work on the WiiU. If it does, then I'll play it.
Would you by any chance care to explain?
I think 'will definitely not work' is way too heavy and a bit overrated.
It seems you mean something other than the controls, because that myth I've already explained away very simply in my previous comment, so I'm really curious as to why you would think that. I probably won't be playing it, but then again, if it did come to WiiU I may. I wouldn't mind this, and people remeber the more the Wii U has the better, Just don't buy what you don't like. Just getting a popular MMO running on a console would be a feat I would welcome no matter what the game is.
WoW would be a good contender due to it's immense popularity and it's aged graphics making it an easier port. Interface-wise the WiiU would be a better fit than the other two because of it's touchscreen controller.
However the problem with console MMOs has always been patches, and I predict Nintendo would be the worst of the three to work with on it's online infrastructure. As an avid Guild Wars 2 player, I'd rather have that. Of course if Blizzard dropped the monthly fee I'd be all for it. Nintendo sold 36 million Mario kart wiis, 86 million wii sports. Nobody in the industry has ever come close to those numbers. Even after unwrapping countries like China Blizzard got up to 12 million subscribers and the game is losing steam with half that today. Does Blizzard want money or not? Nintendo would be the perfect partnership. GameStop Wii U Software Pre Orders Surpass One Million

GameStop Wii U Software Pre Orders Surpass One Million

GameStop Wii U Software Pre-Orders Surpass One Million Nintendo Life

Mamma mia! by Share: The Wii U is out in just two days time in North America, and you can already smell the excitement in the air. Drunk on the 'new console' fever, it seems that people have been getting a bit anxious thinking they may not secure their console for the holiday season. We reported that Wii U pre-orders were quickly, and at one point, GameStop had altogether across its US stores. It comes as no surprise that GameStop has revealed that there are over 1.2 million preorders for Wii U games, alongside sitting on 500,000 consoles allocated for consumers across the nation. The good news is that this puts the software ratio for the Wii U at 2.4 games for each console sold, which is double that of the Wii at launch. The top preorders for the console are , , and . We're really hoping that the Wii U won't experience a shortage of supply like the Wii did at launch, so please tell us you have your pre-orders in already! [source ] Share: Comments ) i had a preorder but i had to cancel it. i hope i can still get one at christmas. I live in Canada so I'm kind of hoping that maybe it won't be sold out as bad here as in the States I hope nintendo keeps a good supply to stores. I've still got a ways to go before I have enough money! I have had my pre-order since the announcement dates where confirmed, went straight to my local gamestop and preoreded the system(deluxe) and two pro controllers and black ops dos. Apparently, there'll be another shipment of console units around Christmas. Hopefully, Nintendo realises the dire need for sufficient stock in retailers. Anyway, this is an ace start. Among those top pre-orders are a good mix of both first-party and third-party titles, so I feel this is a good sign for significantly well-rounded support on the Wii U from here on. And they say physical retail has reached its end with these figures at hand! Groovy.
Preordered, bought, waiting and a change of underwear is on hand, to be ruined in the name of awesomeness. i'm hoping on getting mine next week, if not then its gonna be fun store hopping all december~ just hope the shortages arn't nearly as bad as the Wii was~ Good news, I thought the game-console ratio would be much lower, specially since theres no hurry in pre-ordering games as there is when pre-ordering consoles Good news, I thought the game-console ratio would be much lower, specially since theres no hurry in pre-ordering games as there is when pre-ordering consoles Sunday morning 10am im hoping to be in and out fast im debating if I want to get nsmb u via disc or download though... There's going to be retail downloads at launch? I've noticed that Amazon.co.uk has stopped taking any more orders for the ZombieU bundle. If I had a coin for everyone Wii U pre-ordered from GameStop, I'd be a NSMB2 king! Yes, I have pre-ordered my Wii U. The downside is that it is being shipped to me so it probably won't arrive on Sunday. T.T Hm, I'm wondering if I should have preordered a few games as well... You spelt Zombi wrong. Or Ubisoft did. Either way, it's wrong. Pre-ordered my Deluxe bundle with four games right when its prices were announced!!! No pre-order and I'm starting to freak out right now — okay, relaxed again.
Tomorrow afternoon, I'll be calling all the retail stores and staking out which one I'll stand in line for. I prefer early morning to midnight, but it will be easier to sneak by the kids at midnight. Just realized I'll HAVE to try a midnight one first because then I get a second chance in the morning if I fail. Hope it doesn't come to that. Good point about third parties: 3 separate companies that aren't Nintendo (Fifth Cell, Ubisoft, Activision) are winning big on launch day. Assassin's Creed 3 and Black Ops 2 are already out on other consoles/PC and they are in the top pre-orders for Wii U. That's a very, very good sign for continued third party support. It would be nice if more stores would have midnight releases for wiiu considering the popularity of preorders but whatever Sure will be Mr. Is GameStop doing a midnight launch for Wii-U? I'll need to go to my local store and ask. Good thing I landed my Wii-U deluxe preorder the day Nintendo announced it! Apparently there is no midnight launch at GameStops. I wasn't going to, but then my grandma and I saw a basic set preorder card at target! So now I got it preordered for sunday. I wonder how many pre orders the Gamecube received....... Well I got The Deluxe Bundle with a ZombiU and NG3:RE preorder. I wonder if they count that as three games or two, since nintendoland is included in the deluxe? The realease is so close now, CAN'T WAIT! While I'm happy for anyone who will get their hands on it this Sunday, I will be weeping in a corner as I don't have money to join in the festivities. The Wii shortages is precisely why I preordered the Wii U right away. Those shortages were really frustrating and left a scar in my mind that won't ever fade... Wow. And this is just GameStop.
What if we add in WalMart, Kmart (are they doing it?), Target, GAME(?), and BestBuy? Will we have surpassed the number of Wii Us Nintendo wanted to sell by March? GameStop Sales of Wii U Are Reportedly quot Slightly Disappointing quot

GameStop Sales of Wii U Are Reportedly quot Slightly Disappointing quot

GameStop Sales of Wii U Are Reportedly "Slightly Disappointing" Nintendo Life

Thankfully not "very disappointing", we suppose by Share: Now that the Holiday season is passing and the majority of people are already returning to the drudgery of work and normal life, some analysis about festive spending and sales is expected to emerge. Wii U will be a major topic in the gaming industry when looking at sales, as it's a new home console launching into a competitive environment that, as most would surely expect, costs more than its older rivals. The question is, are the general public enthusiastic about the concept and buying the system? Some early noises aren't positive, though Wii U had strong début weeks in the US, Japan and practically sold out in the UK. A good first week doesn't reflect the long-term success that Nintendo craves, however, and it seems that at one major chain of stores — presumably in this case referring to US branches — the first six weeks of sales haven't been setting the tills alight. Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia, writing in an investor note, reinforces evidence of many shopper's eyes by saying that Wii U stock availability in GameStop stores is "abundant". It goes on to say that the Deluxe model is selling better due to its "better value" — which likely refers to the inclusion of — and that the software attach rate at the stores is "low", reinforcing statements late last year from other analysts. The conclusion is blunt, though could also be worse. Our conclusion is the Nintendo Wii U launch has been slightly disappointing. In the absence of formal figures this kind of analysis is the closest we'll come to firm indications of sales figures at this time, so it's not cheering news. It must be acknowledged, however, that references to sales results at one specialist retailer aren't an indication of its success or otherwise as a whole, even if the sight of readily available stock suggests low demand. Let us know what you think about these comments, and how you think Wii U has performed at retail, below. [source ] Share: Comments ) Early days yet with many years to go. I am the only one not surprised by this? The Wii U had really only three or four killer apps at launch, nothing new since launch and the newer killer apps coming out in March. Doesn't take a member of Mensa to work out the Wii U isn't selling well - there just isn't enough great games on the console In Finland it's 70 EUR for a new game on Wii U (same for Xbox360, PS3) at GameStop. That's friggin' 91 USD! No wonder game sales are slow.
You can get new Wii U games for 60 EUR in some other shops, also many people order from web stores. I don't have a TV, so I don't know what advertising has been like but I was surprised when I went into a PC World/Curry's in the UK yesterday and saw no Wii U section. Then I noticed that they were for sale in the Wii section. And that the top five games in the Wii chart were, in fact, Wii U games. That kind of placement can't help, the Wii U was basically made invisible. GameStop not loving it means it was a meh launch. They basically are the major place anyone would buy one here. Unless everyone went to Walmart for some reason, this isn't good. At a gamestop here (at a mall inbetween 2 major neighborhoods) 2 people bought them launch day at Midnight at GameStop; I know them both.
Still, I hope this doesn't end up like 3DS. PS3 was slow out of the gate,. Give it some time, the Wii U will pick up steam slowly as better titles get released. One thing that could help though is better marketing ads on TV. Start to show the Wii U just isn't for the casual gamers. I'm really not surprised by this at all. I'm such a huge Nintendo fan and they're probably my favourites games company of all time (sorry, Sega - only just). However, despite this, I have zero interest in the Wii U. The original Wii is the best console I have ever owned and still play it regularly, so how can they mess up so bad? What I was hoping for was a HD Wii. Visuals better than what we see on PS3/360, better online, same compatibility as Wii and to use the tried and tested motion plus controller. I certainly do not want a giant touch pad controller taking up what little living room space I have left. I've complained quite a bit about the Wii U on here, but only because I'm disappointed. After countless responses of "it's not such a big deal" and "get over it", I have to say no. I think a lot of other Nintendo fans are choosing not to buy it too. It's a shame as I still love and want to play Nintendo games, but so far I think this is going to be the first Nintendo console I've had no interest in since I got my first SNES. Sad days. I assume you have statistical proof that an expanded TV Advertising campaign would result in a more profitable and exponential increase in Wii U sales? Or are you just taking a guess and assuming that spending more dollars on advertising will magically turn disappointing sales into impressive ones? People shouldn't guess with regards to marketing. Corporations such as Nintendo have databases filled with numbers to help them calculate what marketing initiatives they should perform, and how much they should spend on them. No need to be an armchair expert, in other words. Nintendo's doing a very expensive global marketing campaign as it is, and Nintendo has been smart to realise that TV ads are so very unimportant for this kind of product. TV advertising is a tip of the iceberg for a modern, smart, marketing campaign.
I'm sorry if I'm missing something in what you're saying but it sounds to me like you are precisely describing the Wii U. The tablet controller is in addition to all the other things you just said, not instead of. He never stated that as fact,he only said "One thing that COULD help " Got to laugh at you telling him not to be an armchair expert when that's exactly what you have come across as in your post Your living room is so small and cramped that the Wii U gamepad won't fit in it? Are you a hoarder or something? Maybe you just need to clean... - quite the opposite of a hoarder, I'm more of a minimalist who doesn't like a cluttered room. Well I could list the problems I have with the Wii U but it'd make for a long post. With the controller, though, I don't like the idea of having a giant touch screen pad to use with my console. I have an iPad already that I keep in my living room, I don't need another giant pad next to the TV. On top of that I need these new pro controllers, additional classic controllers (since I used GameCube pads for VC before) and my old Wii remotes and nunchucks. However, since no GC compatability, I'd also need to keep my Wii and GameCube pads anyway. If you're fine with all that stuff around your TV then that's up to you. Personally I just want one console and little clutter. Not really surprised. Had Pikmin 3 (or any other hyped Wii U exclusive game) come out at launch, sales would have spiked I bet. I think the console might have sold a bit more units-wise if the Premium Bundle had just been standard. Regardless, just give it some time and it will be getting some pretty killer apps... After all, look at the 3DS. It had a mediocre launch, but it had some stellar releases last year, and it looks bright for this one. This is an ok launch but probably not as good as Nintendo was expecting. All we hear is the negativity but compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360 launches, there have been fewer problems and more sales. 3DS Launched bad...nuff said. he doesn't know whether it will help or not at all, actually. That's the point I was actually making. - Wow, I'm glad I'm not there (wherever that is). Gamestop is the last place I would ever purchase anything. I even order from Amazon before going to the local Gamestop, especially when it comes to games, I like my new games to be new. I have bought scuffed "new" discs at Gamestop in the past, I also got one game home to find that the weird color of the cover art was really soda that leaked down in front of the unsealed game case and had the cover stuck to the clear plastic on the game case. My brand new Mario for DS had a case that looked beat to death.. My brand new DS strangely had fingerprints all over it, Gamestop is ridicilous. haven't got a single game at retail. already bought 3 in the E-shop though. who cares about disks anymore? Not completely unexpected. I barely see any shelf space dedicated to Wii U, particularly in supermarkets, where the Wii U stuff is unceremoniously lumped in with the Wii stuff. There are a bunch of other factors as well, some Nintendo's fault, others not, but I think we need some more time to fully gauge the level of interest towards Wii U. maybe you just have a bad Gamestop. Everything I've gotten from GS has worked and looked perfectly fine..
The games line up is a fair point. We're constantly being told how strong it is and I guess compared to other launches it is. Just nothing I want right now. March/April could be big - Pikmin, Rayman and Bayonetta. I keep saying the Wii U really needs to be included on stellar multi-platform releases though if it's to be a success. You know Nintendo will eventually deliver some of the best exclusives in any generation.
That does kind of make sense - I bought a Wii U for exactly that reason. I don't have any GC games or a tablet. An HDMI cable means that I can plug the console directly into my computer monitor though instead of having to go through a USB adaptor (I don't have a TV). Sad to hear but definitely expected this. As did nintendo probably. They need to pump out more games. Need to own games. I'm glad they are not rushing their product but also imapatiently await those titles Game stop gave me a jank Ps3, Soulcalibur 4, and even a WiiShop card that didn't work. I still like Gamestop tho. I think the Wii U didn't do so good is for 1)It has a hefty price for a country just stumbling out of depression. 2.)The launch lineup was big and bad, literally. People need to understand that people will only play Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles. The only Nintendo games to be released are NSMBU and Nintendo Land which are argueably sub-par to say the most. Nintendo will find its groove when these games release: Mario 3D Wii U, Zelda U, SUPER SMASH BROS UNIVERSE, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart U, Dragon Quest X, Metroid, Miyamoto's new IP, and hopefully that rumored Yoshi's Island game(YEEESSSS!) 3.)Ports of already released games which look slightly worse than the other versions. Who'd buy a port of a game that just came out! Call of Duty and Halo will never succeed on Wii U because the fanbase for those titles in the Nintendo fanbase is weak to say the least. I mean, how poorly would mario have done on an Xbox. 4)Hopefully the Virtual console on Wii will merge with the new one and it must include: Dreamcast titles, Sega Saturn titles, Sega CD titles, Gamecube titles, and yes probably Wii titles as well. Just give Nintendo time. This isn't 2006 where the economy was okay and Nintend was a magic bean from Jack and the beanstalk. Now we have to plant Nintendo and slowly watch them grow. Game stop gave me a jank Ps3, Soulcalibur 4, and even a WiiShop card that didn't work. I still like Gamestop tho. SORRY ABOUT THAT DOUBLE POST! I HATE MY PHONE! Means nothing. The Wii sold a metric poop-ton at launch and dropped like lead balloon after a few years. Both the PS3 and 360, along with their prior generations, sold less than the U in the same launch window but greatly improved as time went on. Impossible to say how its going to do this early. @ ljinkakidd
"People need to understand that people will only play Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles." What people? Not me, certainly. I can't afford to own more than one console and there were a lot of titles on my ex's PS2 that I really enjoyed that I'd love to own sequels to on my Wii U (e.g. Hitman). When I was younger I was a Sega boy but that didn't stop me playing/enjoying/wishing for some of the games released on friends' SNESs.
Polarising people in this way is ignorant, stupid and unhelpful, there's no reason people wouldn't enjoy Zelda and Halo, Mario and Soulcalibur and there's no reason that they should have to buy those games on separate consoles. There's a protracted recession that continues to develop and it may well be that sales of all consoles are down in the next generation as more people are forced to choose between them rather than purchasing more than one.
Basically agree with you despite my earlier post. I still think product placement in stores is contributory though. I wonder why we get higher prices for some games? Dangerous Hunts 2013 on Wii U is $50 with no gun and I can get it on PS3 and 360 for $25 and $29, the Wii version is $20 ($40 with a gun). and games like Tank! Tank! Tank! are $50? I do like it but it's clearly a budget-like title. Here is the problem, Nintendo has no games at launch that would appeal to non-gamers, my mom liked bowling on Wii, my grandma liked it also and wanted it, EVERYONE in the family loved it, trust me, they would not want a Wii U so they can chase Mario in Nintendoland. yeah, it just depends on what you're looking for. I can only speak for myself and other people may not have the same problem with it that I do. I think the general reason, and I'm just speculating from what people have said, is that they're not really sure what the Wii U is. They know it's a new console (and not a Wii add on) but they're not sure what they'll get out of it. Like I said, I can only speak for myself but everyone may have their own reason for not buying one. I'd like to hear from other die hard Nintendo fans their reason for not getting a Wii U. Truthfully I am surprised launch was not even worse with the game selection that was available. The only reason I got mine early was because I really wanted to have it early to help Ninty succeed with their console, but as far as games, there is sadly not much on the console I have not already played. I wouldn't be surprised (though the true casuals don't seem to know about it yet), that the Nintendo market skews away from places like Gamestop and is more likely to buy from Target, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc. Unless you are really good at working trade-in deals, Gamestop just isn't a great deal. I get 5% off everything at Target with my credit card, so why would I get video games (which are priced the same everywhere) anywhere else? I'd imagine Wal-mart and Best Buy have similar discounts with their credit cards and Best Buy has a free rewards program (don't you have to pay a fee for Gamestops?). My Target had NSMBU, Sega and Sonic All-Stars Racing, Nintendoland, and I think one other game sold out when I went there, and I can't ever remember Wii games selling out, so unless my store just got crappy shipments, this could be an isolated event. Let's not also forget the Deluxe promotion on digital games make buying new releases a better deal online than in most stores, unless you get a preorder deal. I have a feeling it may just be them... It's because everyone hates gamestop. 'You need to buy the gameplay guarantee for an extra $5!' Shoved down your throat. Then they pull out the manual and some gyro controller. Leave me alone gamestop! There's some tough competition out there for Nintendo, with (lower priced) XBOX360's and PS3's flying out the door with an utterly massive software library one can pick up at very cheap prices. I can back up the poster above who thinks Gamestop is sketchy when it comes to buying "new" items. Often "new" products you buy from them will have already been opened. Its ridiculous and should be illegal. When I bought a "new" copy of Skyward Sword that was not wrapped in plastic and was missing the ClubNintendo insert it was the last straw. Never again have I bought from Gamestop and never again will I. I also tell everyone I know these things so as to get them to shop at Bestbuy/Walmart/etc. ONLY for video games. DO NOT BUY FROM GAMESTOP. Also, twice had to call over and over and demand they get me my pre-order incentive bonus. I am about 99% certain this is because the Gamestop employees like to keep their customers' pre-order bonus items for themselves. I have heard other people on here say the same thing... that they never got their pre-order Gamestop bonus. The employees there must think nobody knows about/cares about the pre-order gifts so they can just take them themselves and go sell on ebay. Not to mention most employees at Gamestop look and act as if they have never experienced a real human relationship ever in their life. On top of that they are all Microsuck (LOLwindows) and Sony fanboys and like to snicker at Nintendo customers. Actually, thats bound to happen imo, i mean... im pretty sure there wont be another console that would "fly-off shelf" like the Wii did, different times, economy while not in a awful shape, its definitely in a "not-so-good". People need another reason to buy a console than "new fancy graphics", actually they can get those (and better) at the same price if they buy a PC, and PC can be used for A LOT more things, Tablet/Smartphones storm the market because they could do a lot of things at once, play games, web, etc... at a great price, not just play games and stream some movies, TVii its definitely a step in the right direction thou , but they need more... and they need A GOOD PRICE I dunno, I had a rough time finding one at my gamestop, they were always soldout! "Just have faith" If VG Chartz is to be believed, Nintendo missed their intended goal by 1.5 million...I think that would be more than a little disappointing... None of this matters. March 2013, Wii U sales will soar. Wii U will soar when the next Retro title comes out. It will soar when Mario, Starfox, or Metroid comes out. It will soar when Bayonetta 2 comes out. It will soar when Aliens come out. I see plenty of Wii U sales in the near future. Its only been like 2 months. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! WiiU's gonna flop! Hey, it's not an opinion it's a fact bro. Nintendo won't put their games on a playstation or Xbox because they're a competitive company. When you think about it Nintendo games do best on Nintendo consoles. With the top 14 best selling games being Nintendo's own I don't see them changing their ways.
Of course Nintendo don't release their games on other company's consoles. All the systems need exclusive titles to differentiate them. I'm not arguing with that - it's an entirely different point to what you said.
My bone of contention is with your assertion that people buying Nintendo consoles are only interested in buying Nintendo games. It's on the shelves in big numbers everywhere I shop. At least Nintendo is keeping up with whatever demand there is. Competition was very stiff this last holiday with the other consoles going for dirt cheap deals. Nintendo didn't have the immediate and compelling draw of Wii Sports. They had a much, much better game that few understand. Nintendo Land is insanely great and I see a lot of disinterest and mediocre reviews. This is a pretty big problem for the launch. It's just a tough sell, but if people have given it a fair chance with groups and different ages playing together most would agree with me. It's great for parties and for extended sessions with a few friends or family members. It's also a way to train newbies in the way of traditional controls and Nintendo franchises. It'd be genius if Nintendo could just get the word out. It's possible that there will be a pretty big second wave of sales as word of mouth gets out and people start enjoying the experience. I hope so. Meanwhile my family is addicted to Nintendo Land like crack and barely play the other two very good games we own. One more thing about Nintendo land the first couple of stages on the deeper team games are TOO easy for experienced gamers. They make it feel like its going to be incredibly boring. This has led to a lot of unfortunate early opinions along with the true joy coming from playing with two three or more players. Clearly the price is too high for many people.
I imagine in this type of economy, only Apple can (for some stupid reason) get away with charging so much. I bet even the new Sony and MS systems will sell slowly unless the price is reasonable, or do that 2 year contract thing MS tried. Yeah.. I'll hold out for the official numbers before I take this as any sort of indication about the Wii U. To be clear, I could care a less if the console is successful or if it's the most popular. Nintendo isn't in any major financial trouble and they'll continue to make the only games I care to play for many years to come. But, more importantly, I've no reason to believe this is indicative of Wii U sales and not just GameStop sales. As others have pointed out, there's little reason to buy games from GameStop when you can get discounts and better deals from places like Walmart and Target. I certainly don't shop at GameStop anymore. This is not proof of anything at all, but on Black Friday I was at the biggest local mall. (My wife and I like to window shop and enjoy a day out on Black Friday.) The GameStop store in the mall had less than five people in it each time we passed by it. I found that to be interesting. Not surprising at all. Nintendo did next to nothing to promote this new console, so this is to be expected. Nintendo always seems to prefer learning lessons the hard way these days, but hopefully they can turn things around in 2013 by announcing compelling first party software, obtaining major 3rd party games, (as well as exclusives), and improving the systems functionality. As it stands now, and while I personally adore my Wii U, I can understand why many won't give Wii U a second, or even first, look. Price is high, true. The value is there. The Gamepad adds something significant and new to console gaming — I don't want a console without one now — but it is expensive and the value is not immediately understood, like the idea of motion controls was by the general public. Playing multiplayer games without a Gamepad seems archaic to this family, already. Just getting the whole screen back when you play two player games in the same room is a revelation, never mind the asynchronous gameplay and 3 to 5-player gaming that is much more comfortable. For the past year Nintendo has been saying they learned a lot from the 3DS launch, and what it seems they learned is how to duplicate it. I wouldn't be surprised to see a price drop if/when the Xbox720 and PS4 come out next holiday. I know I'm waiting for a "must have" reason to buy the system and it isn't there yet.
I think Nintendo did themselves a disservice by having the 2 distinct packages. People don't want to buy the basic white for $299 b/c it isn't worth it, and they don't want to buy the black deluxe because $349 is too much money these days. If you give your customers a moments hesitation in trying to decide between the 2 you've probably lost that sale as they've moved on to something else to do with their money. There are a ton of basics sitting on store shelves and the deluxes are starting to pile up next to them now that the holiday shopping season is over.
Pikmin 3 should move a few units whenever it comes out - a release date would be nice, how does a "launch window" game still not have a release date? - but those boxes will be gathering dust until then. The only information I gathered from this report is that nobody wants to buy stuff from Gamestop anymore I thought sales were pretty darn good compared to the PS3 and 360 launch. Also the people at my Gamestop actually love the Wii U. So taking this article with a grain of salt. Nintendo is doomed! Only Carnival Games can save you now. I don't think you understand the meaning of "killer app". The WiiU currently has none. Not surprising. I gotta laugh at the people who say this is not an issue with the Wii U but an issue with people not shopping at Gamestop. Delusional much? The marketing here in the States was lackluster. All they showed off were families playing NINTENDOLAND and NSMBU. They to promote NintendoTVii more and some of the mature titles like ZOMBIU and ALIENS. I got one on launch day and it has pretty much replaced my 360. It's the gaming/movie watching on the tablet controller that will move this machine with Nintendo's main market share: The family. Give me the GamePad over Kinect anyday! I really hope Nintendo makes there projected sales of 5.5 million consoles worldwide by March. Regardless of what Gamestop says. There are other vendors that have sold the Wii U. Their statement should be read "Gamestop sales a disappointing amount of Wii U consoles". According to Motley Fool, a Financial service company, here is how the Wii has sold up till Dec 22 and compared to other consoles in the same amount of time:Wii U: 1,817,166Wii: 2,071,242PS3: 524,687X360: 948,162
That's 88% Wii, 346% PS3, 192% X360. Pretty decent.
People seem to have created an idea that the Wii U is not selling, when in fact it is. It's hard to see because the Wii skewed all game launch data. If I had money to invest in NTDOY, I would now, since people think it's not doing well. By the time they realize they were wrong the stock could be worth more than four times what you paid for.
I wish they would state which wii U's are abundant. I bet the deluxes sell out quickly, but there's ton's of the basic sets. I've pretty much always seen at least on basic set on the shelves everytime I go in the store, but usually never any deluxes. Personally, when I was trying to get my hands on a Wii U, it took me six weeks from launch to get a delux, although many times I passed up on an available basic set. I give the basic set another 6 months before Ninty goes back to just one set with common items, just it'll be available in white or black. I'm not worried. It's a marathon, not a sprint. I've been more than pleased with the Wii U & have plenty of awesome games to play til Aliens:Colonial Marines & Monster Hunter 3 hit in Feb/March. This years E3 will be HUGE for Nintendo. This is where the big guns will come out. Zelda,Metroid, 3D Mario, MArio Kart, Smash Brothers etc...expect to see some big surprises. In the UK, Zavvi recently knocked nearly 30% off the Premium Bundle to try and shift some after Christmas. For me, it's not even the price, it's just the lack of must have games available, and none officially announced either. There's plenty of good games to play if you have one, but if you're a multi-console gamer, there's nothing you HAVE to buy the console for right now like a 3D Mario, a Zelda, or a Metroid. Good grief, it's only been 2 months. Calm down GameStop. I was at a GameStop yesterday just browsing and didn't even see a WiiU section. There weren't even WiiU games mixed with Wii games. So either they completely sold out of all of them, or they're all in the back where no one can see any WiiU related products at my local GameStop. Nintendo will not advertise more until they can make a profit on individual hardwares. So do not plan on seeing a campaign until mid to late 2013. As a huge Nintendo fan since '86, I do not own or currently plan to own this system anytime soon. Instead of paying top dollar for subpar games in the beginning of the system's cycle, I'd rather wait this time around for a great price and excellent games that I know are bound to come out in the next year or so. Besides, I'm still having too much fun with another excellent system at the moment; my 3DS! Firstly, your link doesn't work. Secondly, the Wii U is now selling well below the other consoles:
Wii U is the first home console that I've had no interest in buying in a very long time. The console itself cost much more than I'm willing to pay, as I'll only use it for handful of first party/exclusive titles. I've got a lot of respect for Nintendo keeping things family friendly and simple, but Miiverse isn't my cup of tea. When the cost of an additional hard drive is tacked onto the already high price tag, I just can't justify the cost for Wii U. Wii and 3DS are consoles I very much enjoy from time to time, but it's just that - a time to time experience. I'm not shelling out $400+ for a console I'm only going to play from time to time. I've listened to multiple industry podcasts where people start to play NintendoLand, get turned off by something or other, and say they'll never go back to it. And it makes me CRAZY! Because it's balls-out awesome and too many "experts" aren't even giving it a chance. For example: One was upset that he'd have to re-play early levels of Yoshi's Fruit Cart. Never even realizing that the warp gates shoot you to the last level you reached. Another: One was annoyed that the F-Zero game wouldn't let him look at the TV screen to control his racer, forcing him to look down at the GamePad. But that only happens in the Tutorial! Had he played for 30 more seconds he'd see that you can play however you want. And if you figure out the powerslide turning technique the whole race can be fast and difficult and intense. But enough from me... suffice to say, I'm "slightly disappointed" in so many so-called experts who have written off one of the year's most gutsy and joyful games. The fact that Wii U has a (at times) confusing interface and annoying gameplay choices that turn off gamers isn't a problem with the player - it's a problem with the game/console! Wii Sports was natural. You could put a Wiimote in nearly any person's hand and they indistinctly knew how to play it. This was the "magic" that the Wii held and it's the "magic" that Wii U lacks. Wii U isn't natural, it's overly confusing for many people. That's a design problem. This is an argument that I've heard countered over and again, but the fact is, people are indeed getting very fed up constant controller confusions with the numerous control (and display) options. There are too many controller options and many of them aren't allowed when they obviously should be. How is it that you can play some games with a Wiimote, but not with the new (expensive) Pro Controller, when only the D-pad and 1 & 2 buttons are being used. Even NL's Ken Barnes spoke his frustration on this very issue in a recent Feature. - I agree with almost everything you said, the only difference is I absolutely love the Wii and it is probably one of my all-time favorite consoles. That makes my dissapointment with the Wii U all the more frustrating. I've been looking high and low for any reason to want to buy this console, but I can't find any. This system just does not appeal to me at all, add that to the fact that every store I go to has tons in stock makes me think that Nintendo is gonna have a rough first year with this thing. I'm not arguing that Wii U has the same intuitive, instant "magic" feeling as the Wii, because you're right, it doesn't.... but my point was simply about NintendoLand, and how there's much more to it than many are giving it credit for. Perhaps that's the game's fault for not spelling it out; perhaps some should have a bit more patience. But yes, one of the big challenges the Wii U will face is the intimidating nature of its many possibilities/limitations. The Wii was simple and elegant, and succeeded largely because of this complete lack of barriers to entry. The Wii U is more complex and not as immediately gratifying. Once it has its hooks in you, though.... whoa man. I hope Nintendo is able to figure out their messaging and gets this in enough people's hands, 'cause there's loads of potential.
Pro controllers are unneeded except for local multiplayer and the GamePad is in fact pretty small.
It IS a problem with the player/gamer. The Wii U interface is simple and incredibly easy to understand right away. It's your own fault that you can't understand something so simple. Probably shouldn't be using a PC or an Android device, as those are more complicated than Wii U. Everytime I entered a Gamestop in Nov and Dec, they told me I had to buy a Wii U NOW, before they sold out!...with 5 or 6 in their stock room. I bought mine Christmas week with no problem. I think Nintendo should play up the new Mii plaza. It's my favorite part! - Yeah, I guess the reason why there is not a lot of demand for the Wii U is because people are too stupid to understand it. Right? but they are still needed for local multiplayer, so I'd still have to get one. As they don't work with the VC, you'll still need classic controllers too. At the moment on my Wii I just use Wii remotes and GameCube pads and that still feels like too much. To add these extra controllers and a gamepad is just too much for me. It's also kind of lazy too. Why isn't the pro controller compatible with the Virtual Console? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they allowed them to replace the classic controller but in addition to those? It's fine if that's no problem for you. I'm quite happy for the Wii U to be a success if everyone doesn't mind having to use multiple controllers. You'll never be able to convince me, though. There's just no way I'm having my TV area look like a forest of plastic peripherals. Nintendo's biggest problem lies in its lack of a killer app. This is the first time I can think of besides the 3DS that didn't have one. It could have been ZombiU, but that game was just too polarizing and full of issues to be it. Mario isn't a killer app for most people unless if it's something along the calibur of Mario Galaxy or 64. NintendoLand is a minigame collection (albeit and amazing minigame collection). Frankly, the 3rd party games are definitely better and more engrossing than what Nintendo put out. Thing is, people already have those games on other consoles for the most part, so the value of being able to play game of the year contenders like Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Batman and COD day 1 is lost. Also, it's not like I've seen a ton of Wii U advertising, so I wouldn't say it's doing badly. Under expectations, yes, but not badly. I think it's a good idea too, because even with Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Game and Wario on the horizon, there isn't much for Nintendo to advertise yet. Besides, those aren't exactly games that entice people who don't own the system; they entice people who already own the system. Additionally, I really question why Nintendo even bothered to put out a basic set. People will always go for the one that comes with a free game, more memory, more accessories and a digital promotion, especially when the difference is only $50. On another note, I'm not seeing how the Wii U is complex in terms of its interface. In regards to its controller options then yes, it makes sense, but when it comes to the gamepad and the UI it's pretty simple. I've had half a dozen friends over for NintendoLand and none of them, my family members nor myself have had complications in understanding it. Not gonna get anything new on the old Wii anymore so it's time to upgrade naysayers Just back from Target - 8 white basics and 2 black deluxes that I could see in the display case. Nintendo should clearance out the whites at $249 and drop the black to $299 before the stores run out of shelf space and stop accepting deliveries. If they really want both black and white consoles so be it but they need to be equal. If the Wii had sold without Wii Sports in the box but as a separate $50 game that system would have lingered on shelves as well. And really, 8GB? Do any tablets or smartphones even come with less than 16GB these days? It might not be panic mode yet, but I currently see no reason for Wii U's to start selling. There a lot of people around here with a very different understanding of "killer app" to me. Now if only they could make the best selling game of all time COD better on a tablet then I probably still won't buy one. I agree with you that Wii U has mountains of potential. I also agree that there's a possibility that some reviewers aren't giving it its dues. But, in the case of Nintendo Land, it seems that many are putting a significant amount of time in with the game and just not finding a reason to press on further to find the 'deeper experience.' If I write a 1k word review and my opening statements doesn't 'hook' you, finding you jumping to my final conclusion and score - there might be a deep, insightful review that's well-written and enjoyable to read throughout, yet I failed to give you the desire to experience it. In this case, you move along in mere minutes, finding enough satisfaction to do so and even though all this additional content is still there, my work is for naught, because I failed to capture you in the very beginning. Over and again, this is exactly what I've seen for Nintendo Land. It's good and at times it's great, but it's only under certain circumstances that it finds this greatness. In my book, there's an issue there and as a reviewer, it's one that I feel has to be taken into consideration. I'm very sure that there are some bad reviews out there (they aren't hard to find these days, sadly), but I've read a lot of very fair reviews that are honest. Wii U is expensive and Nintendo Land isn't Wii Sports, like so many want it to be. If you're one who can get the full 'Nintendo Land' experience, that's great and I truly hope you're fully enjoying it. But, let's level here: Wii U is $350 (bundle with game included); this is 2013 and online gameplay has been commonplace for many, many years now; Wii U is a tablet-like console, and tablets and local multiplayer are most certainly not commonplace these days. The confusion is easy to see here. Try to walk into a store and explain to a parent that multiple people can play Nintendo Land together simultaneously. Then tell them that you will need your controllers from their past Nintendo home console, Wii, to accomplish this. Then explain to them that two separate screens will be used in the process of doing so (four people playing on two screen?!) . But, you'll then need to let them know that the Pro Controller and the Classic Controller aren't equal and which combinations of Wiimotes, Pro Controllers, Classic Controllers and Wavebirds can be paired together and what combinations will not work - for EVERY game, not just Nintendo Land! Of course, the issues go further, but I think my point is now clear (not that I'm trying to be arrogant, only transparent). I hold no bias, I just feel that Nintendo has gone from a console that's highly intuitive and instinctive to a new console that's at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. It's confusing and at time convoluted - it's a multitude of issues that Nintendo has to find a way to make people fully understand, or the console will never connect to the mainstream audience. Nintendo Land was designed to do this, but only those who have the ability to play local multiplayer are doing so. This is on an expensive and new console in an digital age that's ALWAYS online - the largest problem with Nintendo Land can be found without ever opening the game's case. Go back and read what we we're talking about again - we weren't specifically talking about Wii U's UI. And for the record, I prefer mobile devices that have real games on them - Apple. For what it's worth, NintendoLand seems to be the only game that really gives any confusion. The average consumer won't be put off by the controller options with NSMBU, and for a lot of Nintendo's franchises I doubt that will be the case either, at least with their two biggest ones in Smash Bros. and Mario Kart. Pretty much every game that seems to incorporate multiplayer on the Wii U itself uses the Pro controller or the standard Wii remote, except for NintendoLand. The options will go away and be streamlined in a few years when you can't buy the older stuff anymore. No, that's definitely not the case. Each game allows you to use only certain controllers and/or combination between them. Nintendo's very own first party titles don't allow you to play with their very own Pro Controller - have you tried playing NSMBU with one yet? Here's a hint: it doesn't allow you too. But, you can play it with a Wiimote. Yes, let that sink in - you can play NSMBU with a Wiimote (last generation's controller), but you can't play it with the brand new Pro Controller. Then there's Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. You can play it with the GamePad, Wiimote, Wiimote + Nunchuk and Wiimote + Classic Controller. But, you can't play it with the brand new Pro Controller (again)! Oh, the controller woes go far, far deeper than just Nintendo Land mate. Meh...I hate to say but I don't really care all that much. I'm going to get the thing for my bday in very late April anyway. I can understand why it is not doing well. There has been basically no advertising (Do you ever learn Nintendo?) and while it had a better launch list than pretty much any system before it as a whole nothing straight up super gold. Give it time, if its a year and half from now then you should be worried. You just have to wait for the system seller. I'm still waiting for the inevitable skyrocket in 3DS sales when the next generation of Pokemon games come out. Cuz the launch games were ports. Wait till the new 3D Mario, sales will skyrocket as they did when Mario 3DLand was released on 3DS. I've personally made a conjecture that humans have become lazy, comfortable, and impatient each and every generation.... What ever happen to figuring things out for yourself, experimentation, and good old adjusting to what is available. To me nintendo's approach is fine and lets see how this year plays out... the "controller" and "not having the right tutorial/setup" is a nonissue in my opinion...
I don't have a procontroller..... I'll just stay a novice player i guess with my old wii remotes and gamepad The X-factor here is digital sales and super cheap old and new PC game bundles and deals. It was possible during the holidays to get many games on PC, mobile, or eShop for the price of one new Wii U, Xbox 360, or PS3 game disc; so of course it's not the least bit surprising that with the enormous expansion of options in the market since 6 years ago, there is almost no chance for the Wii U to sell as much as it's predecessor during this time period. Retail is no longer the dominant distribution method. It will always have it's niche, but the temptation of lower prices through digital distribution is drastically changing the retail landscape. Even the mighty Nintendo is experiencing trouble surviving in the current marketplace environment, so the others must really be struggling... And of course, GameStop is not reporting the abysmally low Vita sales in the same breath... You wanna talk about disappointing... I'm with the early poster that is disappointed in this for the first time. I wanted to want it so bad, went to the "experience" before launch, followed all the hype, but I finally got an xbox about 6 mo ago after waiting so long, and it just does everything the WiiU does (short of a touch screen) and from what I hear some things are better. Not to mention that the Kiosks have no actually playable games besides Rayman; how is that advertising? They even tried to jump on the bandwagon with the "entertainment center" thing, but none of it was ready, loading times are long and it won't even play DVDs? Like a lot of people I prefer to download content now, netflix, movies, and the best games at a reasonable price (not 50+$). I got rid of my DVD player a while ago and now besides the sound system all I need is the xbox for everything (and the old Wii for some stuff). why should I get another console that doesn't out do either of these things and can't actually handle all the media we want to use now without 50 attachments and hacks? It looks pretty because it's new, but just buy the console and what can it do? Not much. No storage, expensive games, few killer apps, no disc player, purchases tied to console, apparently slow loads and updates, and some heavily monitored 'chat' functions. Oh and some cool ports of games at double the price on the consoles they already came out on before. To match the cheaper consoles you need to spend at least $400 and then another at least $50 for each game; no way. I'm prepared to be proven wrong when they wake up and lower the prices and get it up to speed with everything else. If they had gotten smart about online stuff with the Wii long ago this may not have happened. I'm setting up my new office and sadly there won't be a WiiU there like I had envisioned a year ago. If I was CEO or head marketer or whatever, I think I could have done a better job then Reggie or Mr. Iwata. I know so many casual Nintendo gamers who would have bought it during the holiday season if it had a wider variety of games like a 3D Mario or a Zelda game , but are now waiting for the first price drop. Why wasn't there a Zelda game? I understand Zelda games take 4 years to develop and all, but If they had this console in development in 2010 they could have saved Skyward sword for Wii-U. Let us be honest Skyward sword needed HD and Wii-U could have been its home. I think Nintendo fans wouldn't mind waiting an extra 2 years for a perfected Zelda game. Don't buy one then... Problem solved Then everyone who bought a Xbox or Ps3 would have bought a Wii then. I'm not saying everybody wouldn't buy Nintendo games, I'm saying that not a substantial amount of people own 2 or more 7th gen consoles. I have all 3, I'm speaking from friends I know which are probably fanboys to say the least. I totally agree Skyward should have been put off till WiiU. I won a Wiiu from the Burger King contest It's a really neat console, of course there is not much software out right now. This system will go far though. Zelda and Mario aren't that great anymore so I doubt they will shift units. The 3DS had 10 Mario games last year and it's still on struggle street sales wise The problem is that many of the games for system so far are games you can get on others systems and as such don't really show the true power or capabilities of the Wii U. Honestly I didn't expect as slow a start as it appears it may be off too, but I didn't expect it to light the world on fire like the Wii either. The Wii had a perfect storm of good fortune happen for it leading up to launch and it had a unique hook with the Wii remote. I expect things will pick up fairly soon though, there's some good exclusive Wii U games coming out in the early part of the year and I imagine we'll see a price drop by the end of the summer (especially if Sony and MS announce new systems at E3 to be released later this year). This will mirror 3DS, a slow start then a big improvement. The company that did absolutely nothing to promote a brand new console, (no commercials on their tv, no midnight launch, little to no signage up until launch) is complaining about sales? This isn't Nintendo's fault Well I saw Mass Effect 3 for $80! I don't get it. A year old game with no online and only some of the DLC for an extra $20 is crazzy. IDK if thats the actuall price but Walmart had it for $80. Mama mia indeed. I see games for 40-50 euro in webshops while they are in the eshop 60-70 euro. Also nintendo need to release some demanding titles before everybody feel the need to buy a wiiu, the system need more exclusives. Im happy with me wiiu but the first game that intrest me is released in march. Also Nintendo is bad with their advertisement/promoting, while i see ps3 stuff get spammed everywhere.
The wiiu is the best gaming device ever created on earth, it only need some demanding exclusives Honestly, I just think it's natural that the console performs as it did, since money seems to be tight all around. Unfortunately I' m not surprised one bit. For starters the Wii U doesn't "click" like the Wii, which is what caused it to come out with a bang. The Wii had word of mouth alone coming out the wazoo, everything from health benefits to getting kids and elderly folk up & moving. The only adds I've seen were for Nintendo Land and NSMB U, a minigame compilation and what looks like any other NSMB game at a glance. The value just isn't there yet either. For $300 I get a console with 8gb, meanwhile I can get a 160gb PS3 for $250+$50 worth of games among other things. Consider what little the Wii U does compared to other devices at comparable prices and its no wonder, especially with money being tigh. Don't get me wrong I want the Wii U to succeed and I want to want one, but its got it's share of problems. It doesn't help that only one of the two games I want is exclusive and most of what I play are on handhelds so far. But to be fair I'm already considering going PC+handhelds.
Exactly. Gamestop´s 70€ per game vs internet´s 43€ per game. Which one I chose, hmmm. I mostly buy used games from that shop, since WiiU and other HD console games are too expensive there.
That's a fair criticism of Nintendoland. Personally speaking, I've been underwhelmed by it but I can see it might be more fun if I had more people to play with. Then again, I tend to feel that way about minigames generally.
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to see what your point is. Perhaps we're talking at cross-purposes. You can use the Pro Controller for Sonic & All Stars Racing, it just doesn't say so on the box for some reason. Just check the eShop.
You can play Sonic & All-Stars Racing with the Pro Controller. I do it all the time. Yeah guys I don't think he really cares these users are just having a cry about something they can't afford or haven't even tried yet... They be mad that their precious VITA is going down the tubes is all it boils down to. I do my best to avoid Gamestop at all costs. So overpriced, rare sales on new games. And I don't trade my games in. In some ways I want digital downloads to take over, because then people won't be able to sell their games back to Gamestop for $5 then Gamestop turn around to charge $35 for that same copy anymore. I really like having the physical copy. I really do love going to Gamestop, I always get butterflies before I go in and buy a new game. I like to show my collection to my friends sometimes and I can't do that with digital copies. : VGchartz isn't exactly a reliable source. I heard that they even guessed on the numbers half of the time.
I agree with this "The wiiu is the best gaming device ever created on earth", the problem is that nobody sees it, people must try the console, but I'm not talking about playing Nintendo Land in a random place, I'm talking about the other awesome features it has, like Miiverse, things that work only because of that touch screen in the controller. I respect this because there are indeed good games coming out for the 3ds. Fire Emblem! My friend was at a GameStop to buy a Wii U for her daughters for Xmas. The employee told her that it won't play any of their Wii games or sync the Wii peripherals/controllers. She didn't buy one (at least she bought a couple 3DS XLs). GS might need to put their employees on comission (to be able to make sure to make the company some money), then fanboys won't be able to wreck sales of consoles they are "too cool" for. What do you expect? It's the most expensive Nintendo console yet. I for one don't care for the big tablet. Bring back the Gamecube controller and keep your focus on creativity for the games, not the system. Yeah, that employee probably would have been fired if their manager found out... I can't even afford to purchase a Wii U at this point in time. I'm wanting to upgrade my tv first to an HD, and am still saving up for that. I have other bills to pay as well, so no Wii U in my near future. Hopefully, I can afford one this year on Black Friday, if I find a decent, affordable hdtv first. Nobody around me will buy me either, because I'm surrounded by idiots, but I'll work something out for myself. I really want a Wii U!!! I think a bunch of you are spoiled kids.who complain about everything, or think that nintendo listen to you guyz comments (maybe about what games you like to see)but nintendo have been making these things for too long they know what they are doing they know when to give you and not give you they just testing.Nintendo console have always been the best;in price, games and maybe not online. but i never spent above $400 for a console. I did now and the xperience of playing the list of games that i have is really different, there is too many good games. Some of it have been ported over some of them have been rushed if they had 4 Nintendo made games besides mario, nintendoland and sing the console would sell better i think the wi u is selling the way it should
it shows you know what you doing it will stand out you don't know what you doing the critics are always there.Back in the day when it use to be just magazines and not everybody had a computer to waste their time to talk on,what they think about people that take their time making games and stuff. If they had a Monster hunter or Resident Evil,Pikmin,Advance wars,Ogre battle,1080 Perfect dark Eternal darkness or the impossible that some people would be happy. You like it you could afford it in this time you get it appart from all that.Don't like don't get, someone else would Leave A Comment Hold on there, you need to to post a comment...
Related Articles
Say hello to Nintendo of Europe SE Smaller boxes are on their way Neon White, Sifu, and Tunic all net 3 noms each Any increases would be carefully considered Nintendo Systems Co. coming in 2023

GameStop Reports 320 000 Wii U Sales Since Launch

GameStop Reports 320 000 Wii U Sales Since Launch

GameStop Reports 320,000 Wii U Sales Since Launch Nintendo Life

Covers a large range of trading territories by Share: As another year settles in snippets of information are starting to reveal the Holiday fortunes of Wii U, since its North American arrival on 18th November and its subsequent releases in Europe, Japan and elsewhere. NPD figures should paint a clearer picture for the US later this week, while Nintendo's own quarterly results are due at the end of January, but today brings us news of Wii U sales in GameStop retail group stores up to 29th December. According to the Holiday Sales Results published by the company, which covers global sales at its various outlets, the retail group sold 320,000 Wii U retail units since it arrived in its respective territories. In a line that reflects the overall tone of the results, CEO Paul Raines said a "successful Wii U launch, strong digital growth and continued momentum in the mobile space were countered by a decline in store traffic." Digital receipts rose by more than 40%, but store traffic and boxed sales dropped significantly enough for the business to return global Holiday sales 4.6% lower than the equivalent period last year. In terms of the Wii U figure, it's tricky to judge the success or otherwise of these numbers, even though it is from one of the largest game retailers in the world. The result was listed among the positive aspects of GameStop's report, and we of course are yet to find out how overall sales through the many online and high street retailers around the world have fared. By the end of January we should have a clear picture. Have you bought a Wii U from GameStop, and what do you make of this sales figure? [source , via ] Share: Comments ) I'm guessing the avarage Wii U owner bought off of Amazon, or went to Target or Walmart. Or Best Buy, which is where I like to get my electronics. I literally live across the street from a GameStop — I can walk there whenever I want — but I won't shop there. Their pushy sales tactics turn me off, and I really dislike their heavy emphasis on used game sales. I know some gamers stick with used for budget reasons, and that's perfectly understandable. For me, I want to reward developers and publishers who make games I enjoy by actually paying them for the game... if they don't get any money, they can't make more games. I don't buy anything from Gamestop. I preorder from my local gamestop, but other than that I wont go shopping there. It's a shame really; I hate going in there and being asked 5 times if I want something completely unrelated to what I'm buying, that and their stupid +$5 on games because they can. Otherwise their wide selection would have me going in there quite regularly. I could only get one on their online store so I ordered it there because I didn't want to be harassed by their low pay crazies. I got mines at Nintendo World Store, so that's pretty close to the root of the tree. The only way I'll shop at gamestop is if they have a good enought pre-order bonus when I reserve my game, which I dislike because they are so pushy. Otherwise I'll shop at a place like target or toysrus that I know have better prices and deals on New games. I've never really had a bad time at Gamestop. It's weird — seems like everybody hates them, but the people in my local shop are pretty cool and helpful and don't really push anything. Huh. That being said, I pre-ordered my Wii U at Toys 'R Us. Usually only buy the occasional used game at GS. But I'm glad they're around, since they offer games other big box stores (Wal-Mart, Target) won't supply. It has to be where we live as the gamestops around me are all really good. I go in and talk to them all the time. Not really sure why they get a bad rep!? they try to push 50 bucks of other stuff on people for buying a 5 dollar game I preordered mine at a Gamestop as I didn't know how quickly preorders would sell out and no one else was selling them at the time.
I don't really like Gamestop as a whole, but there WAS one near my house which had amazing employees who were always friendly and helpful. I guess the district manager liked them so much, though, that they moved them around so that they'd help bring up the sales in other stores. Lol. Goes to show that if your employees are actually good and don't push preorders in crap on people, you'll actually get MORE sales. Who would have thought? Walmart had the preorder and I got 20% off there because of the employee appreciation event. I got mine off of EBAY because the guy at Gamestop told me I would never get one before the beginning of February. I payed 425 dollars for the Deluxe edition. ABout 2 weeks after my purchase I saw them everywhere. I learned my lesson though, always pre-order. I think perhaps Gamestop is a bit different where I live. It's one of the few stores that has a good game library to offer unless you buy from online stores. I always go there if I'm close by, they might have one of the games I've been looking all over for. I got Kid Icarus: Uprising! there not long after release. No other store had that game until maybe 2 or 3 months later. Maybe that says more about how crappy the other stores that sell games are where I live. There isn't any other game-only-stores here, only stores that sell games in addition to the other stuff they sell. And they usually have no idea about what they are selling. The people working at Gamestop actually knows and sometimes they have even played the game themselves. That doesn't happen anywhere else around here. My Gamestop is actually pretty good. Plus, there's one employee that's always seems to be there (when I'm there at least) and he knows a lot about the products. I can't wait until Gamestop is no longer allowed to sell open products as new... GameStop is kinda like Walmart, popular to hate. Yet not without good reason. Yet at the same time, you can often save money/time by simply going to GameStop/Walmart rather than going to a better store, but having to pay more. I shop at GameStop quite often, it's fun to just go in and browse and see if they have any used retro games for cheap to pick up. You can always find amazing deals, of course you can also find amazing deals online, but then you have to pay for shipping and wait for it to come in the mail. GameStop offers that instant gratification. It does completely depend on the employees as well as far as your experience goes. Sadly I can't STAND the stupid manager at the GameStop near me, and his presence sometimes stops me from going in. I love everyone else, so that's what sucks about it. Regardless I still go in quite often and have applied for a job there a few times. Never got any calls back though... like Walmart, maybe it's for the best, eh. not so good, but not so bad. Like people said above, most people pre-ordered it or got it from Walmart. I thought that was an old man because of his beanie. But on-topic I'll probably get a Wii-U this year if more titles are released. I got my Wii U from Best Buy. As for used games and hardware, I go to my local Pre Played store. They tend to have a much larger selection of used games and better prices than Gamestop. I also get treated with much more respect there. I won't pre-order with GameStop because they don't make good on the bonuses, and I won't buy non-current releases because their "new" games have been opened. So that leaves ... I've been in Gamestops that were both good and bad. Thankfully in the towns I live in, they are REALLY good I only ever go to gamestop for retro games. Other than that i gef sll of my games from Best Buy. They seem like one of the only stores who really take care of thier products. Bought mine from Fred Meyer's. Black Friday morning every game related item, including games, is 20% off, and no one is ever there. Plus they have a lot of games I wouldn't expect them to have, found 999 there recently. I'm not sure why Gamestop is hated so much, and it doesn't really matter but I have no big problems with Gamestop. The only thing that bothered me was when I was told how they destroyed all the cases for 3DS/DS games traded in. I get the clearing out the wall of PS2 and Gamecube games but that is unacceptable. But I digress...once I heard they stopped taking preorders, though, I just went across the street to Walmart to guarantee it with layaway. In Australia, GameStop trades under the name EBGames - we're a funny lot like that, we wouldn't know what Burger King was other than by looking at the branding to see that everything bar the name, Hungry Jack's, is Burger King. I never was a fan of EBGames' pricing, particularly charging 80-90% of a new game price for used - and they have no unused stock (surprise surprise), worse when you traded the same title for around a third new game price.
I'd also complain about the 'puketahhh-puketahhh' music being so loud sometimes that I can't think, let alone converse normally.
This said, they represent the only franchised game-specialist stores that this country has and generally are the only bricks-and-mortar store to stock more than the generic "Barbiez Bratzy Horsiez" crap. For the Wii U release, it was a case of good timing.
I had a lot of stuff to trade and EB were doing a good deal on trade-ins that were credits towards a Wii U pre-order, so with that deal and the price-match policy which the crew in Hay Street were quite keen to remind me about, I ended up exchanging cash and gear for not only my pre-order but had enough credit to get almost two additional titles. I could not have had less hassle nor managed to come away with what I felt was a bargain had I gone anwhere else, so casting my negative generalisations about the place aside, you can have a good experience but you have to pick the sales and be armed with a competitor's catalogue I bought mine from a Czech online retailer and had it delivered by bus to Ukraine. People are trying to justify the selling of only 320,000 Wii U s by saying that they don't like GameStop. That doesn't accumulate the whole Nintendo fan base, so I don't see how that is a valid reason. Great to see that most Wii Us were not bought at the Evil Empire that is Gamestop. Shop anywhere else people! You get more for your used games just about anywhere than Gamestop. LOL nobody trusts Gamestop. GOOD! 320,000, I'd say that's a bit low. for GS. I'd guess that would have wanted to move at least 500,000. However, based on how many GS sold, I would estimate that Nintendo moved at least 1 million units in NA this holiday season. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to say Nintendo moved 2 - 3 million worldwide since launch. I'll guess 2.5 million units. GameStop Lists Watch Dogs Wii U For Preorder

GameStop Lists Watch Dogs Wii U For Preorder Nintendo Life

Wishful thinking or inside knowledge? by Share: Last week, we reported on the rumour that Ubisoft's . The story was the result of a leak of promotional materials which stated that the game was coming to "All home consoles". That rumour has been given a little more weight by the fact that GameStop has posted a . Will you be placing an order, or do you think this is just a case of GameStop taking a wild guess based on the earlier rumours? Post a comment to let us know what you think. UPDATE: also has a listing for the game. Read into that what you will! Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our for more information. [source ] Share: About Damien has over a decade of professional writing experience under his belt, as well as a repulsively hairy belly. Rumours that he turned down a role in The Hobbit to work on Nintendo Life are, to the best of our knowledge, completely and utterly unfounded. Comments ) I watched a video on this game and it looks beyond awesome , I can't wait to get this it just looks amazing ! I don't think this gives it any more weight (mainly because it was already a solid rumour). Last weeks news came from promo items being sent out to retail saying it would be on all home consoles, so this is just the next step from that, not really a new development. Pretty sure it's coming. Day one if this is true! We have Metro Last Light Wii U on Amazon.fr... this will be the first game im suprised at the wii u getting, hoping well get more of these triple A titles coming in the future. Nice if it really comes to the wiiU i will buy it. i loved the video. amazon as well iirc I just hope this comes out before or after Super Luigi U. Wanna give Watch Dogs a fighting chance upon release. A same-day release would blow my mind, it probably wouldn't even sell. It's definitely coming to the Wii U. Gamestop will not offer preorders on speculative releases. That will be a definite must towards the Wii U Library. With a shiny game Like watch dogs, really see how much the console can pack a punch. It'll Take me to the days where the gamecube can rival in terms of display with the ps2 and xbox. This would be a great addition for the Wii U! An E3 hit! I'm not into violent games. Just good games. This looks like a good game. I might wait until it's a bit cheaper than day one but this game is definitely on my wish list (only if it's released on WiiU though). I've been waiting for a good game set in Chicago... Why GTA never did beats me. Well as I said before, if this version is as good (or better) as the others and it releases at the same time as the other consoles, I'll forgive Ubisoft for the Rayman fiasco. This will go a long way towards restoring Ubisoft's image with Nintendo fans. Not as long as Beyond Good and Evil 2 would... Frankly, I'd be surprised if it didn't come to Wii U. This and Blacklist. Ubisoft has always been a big Nintendo supporter, even on Wii. I always figured the reason we didn't see more quality games from them was due to the issue of raw power. Now that the power is there we are seeing games like ZombiU and Assassin's Creed. Amazon is somewhat known for the speculative nature of many of their upcoming product pages. For example, they've had The Star Wars Holiday Special DVD listed for years, despite the fact that that product was never planned to exist. I think this game could work really well on WiiU, with the gamepad and all. It would be very interesting to see what they would do with the gamepad Well, if the gameplay's anything like Hitman then I'll give it a look; the concept doesn't really appeal though. So did Best Buy. The gameplay mechanic does lend itself to the gamepad, I couldn't see how it would work better on any other platform. If it got good reviews then I would add it to my list of games to buy. But until either Ubisoft or Nintendo officially announce this for Wii U, I'm still treating this as rumor and speculation Very good for the Wii U if this is true. "Wishful thinking or inside knowledge?" Neither! Just a wild guess, like always! Though it seems to be officially announced now, but this is just a coincidence! GameStop Wii U Will Need Great First Party Titles To Compete

GameStop Wii U Will Need Great First Party Titles To Compete

GameStop: Wii U Will Need Great First Party Titles To Compete Nintendo Life

Sales have been "slower than expected" by Share: It's no secret that Wii U sales have been a bit on the sluggish side in 2013, but many retailers are hopeful they'll soon pick up once a few more games start being released. One games retailer that has been disappointed with the number of Wii U units flying off the shelves is GameStop. In an interview with , the company's president Tony Bartel said that since the holiday launch of the system, sales had been slower than expected. However, he believes that with Nintendo launching some of its biggest IPs over the next few months, sales will most likely bounce back as more and more people begin to take note of what it has to offer. Nintendo was the first company to jump into the next generation of gaming and many are wondering how the Wii U will fare when Sony and Microsoft release their home consoles into the wild. Bartel believes it will be the actual games that end up selling the consoles: Software will play a big role in each console’s success over the holidays. We’re already seeing great developer and publisher support for PS4, so Wii U will need some great titles, especially first-party titles, to compete. At the moment Bartel thinks that not enough people actually know about the Wii U and its features, which has been a major problem in generating sales: There’s also a need to increase consumer awareness of the new features available on the Wii U and its tethered tablet features. Wii U has a few exclusive titles coming out in the first half of 2013. will be on the shelves very soon, for example, and should certainly help when it emerges. Do you think Wii U sales will start to improve in the next few months? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. [source , via ] Share: Comments ) That'll be all fixed by the end of next year I'll bet. I downloaded most of my games. The only games that I bought from Gamespot were the CoD and ZombieU, and thats only because they were not available in the eShop. The same also goes for my 3DS. Pikmin isn't going to be a system seller no matter how great it will be. Get SSB, get Wii Fit, get a 3D Mario and get a Zelda. Most of all, get a Wii Sports game. Nintendo Land isn't going to get people excited the way Wii Sports did. Also, despite the fact that the system will be at a super loss, I think a price cut might help. Making a profit on the system doesn't matter or not if you don't have it in any houses. If getting good sales on a game requires selling it to pretty much every system owner then you are probably not going to make a profit. Did Captain Obvious take the day off today? In B4 lengthy Nintendoomed discussion. No news here. Let's get back to the games. And the "no poop" award goes to... Hate to break it to him, but even when I get a Wii U, I still won't be buying Wii U games from GameStop. Zelda U coming to Wii U in 2014 but sad to say 2014 is too late. All of 2013 is just about lost because they have no real first party games that is going to sell like hotcakes in 2013. Good thing they're on the way!
3D Mario, Mario Kart, Wind Waker HD, and even Pokemon Rumble should help. And that's just from Nintendo's big name franchises. Personally, this is the first Nintendo system (since the NES) that I don't feel the need to own. It feels as if I'm hitting a gaming wall in which I'm perfectly complacent of the gaming tech now compared to the next gen. Besides, I own a 3DS in which it's UI is not much different than that of the Wii U's. Yes, the Wii U has better graphics but the 3DS will also have a new Smash Bros., a new Zelda, and already has a superb Mario Kart game! Those three games equal gaming nirvana to me; something that I can get in my current portable without the need to buy a $300+ system. Perhaps when the games are released and there's a price drop to the system is when I'll become interested. Or perhaps not. Time will tell. There is this thing called patience, I hear it helps with waiting... well from 1st party games: zelda ww HD, pikmin 3, mario kart U, pokemon scramble U or rumble U whatever and a 3D mario is going to be released this year, yet i doubt these games will make people buy a wii u, but those of us that have a wii u will probably buy all games that i mentioned since the wii U does lack games I'm not normally one to complain about articles, and the editorial staff is just doing its job reporting on this stuff, but these "BLANK person says Wii U needs to have more games" stories are getting pretty old. I don't know anyone that didn't expect this, you need NIntendo games to sell a Nintendo console and a 2d Mario game, however awesome, isn't going to justify a nearly 400 dollar purchase unless you're insane like me and have to have the new Nintendo console when it comes out! None of my Nintendo fanboy friends have even bought one because they still have a Ps3 or 360 and are waiting for a 3d mario or zelda game before they make the plunge given it's the most expensive Nintendo console in history. Also, 3ds shows a price drop may be in the works so people are waiting for that too! Right now I just use the thing for Netflix and to catch up on Wii titles I didn't play because I was gone traveling Europe for 2 years. I think that Nintendo has more than a year head start on the competition simply because I feel the adoption rate of New Xbox and Playstation could likely be a very slow one. Slow to get true "next gen" titles. Slow to get adopters of the hardware (no backwards compatibility, still tons of games on their old platform, etc.) The way it works out Sony and Microsoft may have 2 years until the mainstream are buying the console and that's 3 years into the Wiiu's lifecycle, which is just insane to me! By the time Sony and Microsoft's consoles are viable platforms we could be looking forward to the next Nintendo console! So I feel the other consoles have their own set of challenges as "Next Gen" platforms, all Nintendo has to do is a price drop and a ton of first party content, including the casual crap for the mainstream to go nuts for, a market they aren't even attempting to hit with Wiiu yet (but they will) and people will buy their console! Right? And This just in sky is blue grass is green! Everyone knows why the Wiiu isn't selling well! Has nothing to do with the console it's lack of games! Here's an idea - maybe try releasing some games and these stories might stop, hmm? You mean those games that are already confirmed to be coming out? I agree, Nintendo needs to invent time travel and release them now! Who in here didn't know games sell consoles??
I think we need to be honest, but Nintendo made quite a bad move this time. Iwata might have apologized in the Wii U Direct, but I feel more sorry for him than for myself. I got the feeling that Nintendo thought 3rd parties would allow them to take their time in making games but, as Rayman Legends has shown, Nintendo cannot trust 3rd parties unless they fund or collaborate with them (Bayonetta 2, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem). So here's what I believe Nintendo should do: continue the collaborations and make their own games showing the multiple ways of the uniqueness of Wii U. Then and only then will we see 3rd parties make optimal ports of their games for shame of appear ridiculous on a platform that would have so many unique and great games. (Criterion is an exception.) One way or another, Nintendo should bring 1 big game for the Wii U per month to build expectation, and show how in every game genre the Wii U can be better. Not to be a downer, but being born in 1989 and always getting first party Nintendo systems ASAP, the Wii U has to be the least excited I've been with a new system. Kind of feel like the first few months has had it's really good games, but New Super Mario Bros U is like, the only real first party Nintendo title I have for it (besides Nintendo Land). Just wait till that 3D Mario gets out here lets see what Sony and Microsoft has to say to that
oh and lets not forget that HD Wind Waker Mario Kart 8 will blow the doors off any nintendo fan still holding out on Wii U just you wait!! Well we know with a single game purchase a Wii U turns into a profit, so a price wouldn't that big of a loss for nintendo. Wait till Smash Brothers and Mario Kart 8 and you won't find it anywhere its all bought the gamepad i bought assassins creed 3 just so i could play it on pad, lack of games i own 5 so far mario, nintendo land zombi u,sonic racing, people must have plenty time and money as im no where near finished these games.not to mention all eshop crap and i have trine 2 very overrated. I do not think it's wrong of us to want new games NOW. The system just released and it's ridiculous that Nintendo did not accurately plan to have a steady stream of games being released. It's frankly a little embarrassing. You cannot release a new system and then say "Hey, one year from now we will have games! Right now enjoy some of these very few quality launch games and let them last you months!"
I bought a Wii U, because I know the games are coming, but it's almost a shame to look at my Wii U literally collecting dust as I sourly wait for anything to come to it (and fix the slow load times and bugs). The Wii U was simply not ready to be released. They should have waited until the end of this year. Nintendo seems to be making the blueprint on how to do things wrong when releasing a console. There's absolutely no excuse for them to not have a major exclusive in stores by now. At this point in the system's life, I'm glad I decided to hold off for a while before getting a Wii U. I need more than just one major first party title to keep me interested in my consoles. I am confident that the Wii U will have some great games eventually. It is just a shame that it will at least be until the end of the year before I will be excited to buy a Wii U. The system has some amazing potential. I just hope it gets realized sooner rather than later. It's kind of sad to me. I know for myself, I will end up loving the Wii U. The titles will be there. However, by the time the games are coming out, I fear the name 'Wii U' will have such a negative connotation, much fewer people will take the console and it's (inevitable) solid game library seriously. people forget the u games are just the first games getting down and keeping up easily with ps3 and xbox games which are at the end of both consoles lifes, think what games will be like when programers get to grips with hardware. I don't understand the panic, it's 5 months old. My experience is that Nintendo look after their consoles. I also don' t understand the comment about it needing great first partyvtitles to compete because thats the main reason for its existance, for nintendo to create its own software. maybe its just me. It's easy to jump on the "it needs games" argument, but I think this part is more important - "There’s also a need to increase consumer awareness". I've seen that AC4 commercial about a dozen times and that game doesn't even release until Oct. Where are all the Wii U commercials? I haven't seen any. And when will Nintendo get game demos on their kiosks? Go stand near a Wii U kiosk and watch people walk up and walk away. You can't garner interest by showing the same videos for 4 months. My kids and I played the demos in the Nintendo store and the kids loved it. So yes, it needs games, but it also needs to advertise the games it has with commercials and kiosk demos. Solo-player Lego and the MH3 Remix come out soon so we'll see if the Wii U gets a pop in sales like the Vita did in Japan w/ the price drop - 600% increase I think - or those games sell but the system still flounders. I go with flounders b/c even with new games people don't know about the system. BTW - this article isn't about the price or the lack of games or advertising, just that GS sold less than they thought they would. Can't fault them for being honest. Or spin - it's not like they can tell their shareholders - "nobody bought a Wii U from us b/c everybody is shopping at walmart" - better to blame Nintendo than the fact that many people hate GS. Nintendo should of got at least 1 major franchise ready for launch, but WiiU in general is suffering New Console Syndrome..
Every console gets 'x' number of games at launch inc 1 or 2 bigger 1st party titles (nintendo's mistake not doing so) then for the next 6 months or so the odd game sporadically released. Even if Nintendo had got a couple of big games out for launch all the people would be saying now is Since Mario & Zelda being released at the consoles launch we have yet to see any other major franchise come to the system.. blah blah blah... In summery, Another WiiU Doomed article which not only wastes the time of those publishing it, but also wastes our time reading and commenting on it.
In another 12 - 18 months when there are a number of high profile 1st & 3rd party titles available for the WiiU, then I might actually take these sort of articles more seriously... If they are still flying about, although by then the press hate will of probably moved on to the ps4 or Nextbox or steambox or one of the andriod consoles. jayblue
(people forget the u games are just the first games getting down and keeping up easily with ps3 and xbox games which are at the end of both consoles lifes, think what games will be like when programers get to grips with hardware). The PS3 & Xbox are almost last gen there would be something wrong if the Wii U could not perform with last gen tech. It just doesn't need first party games it needs 3rd party games as well, which are not coming out on the Wii U for some reason. Why on earth would people be buying a Wii U at the moment which has no games, while a lot of great 3rd party games are being released. I can see a lot of people holding off on buying a Wii U at the moment, buying a PS4 or Xbox720 than once the Wii U has some good games and a price drop maybe picking it up then. After seeing the PS3 not selling on launch because it had no games, i'm surprised Nintendo has done the exact same thing. Agreed. First party games alone are not enough. It's the third parties that will make all the difference... again! Yeah, I haven't bought many of my Wii U games from Gamestop. Their selection lacked many of the titles I was looking for. "Wii U will need great first party titles" A statement promptly made useless by some already kind-of-announced titles such as the Wii U Mario Kart and the 3D Mario... not to mention, oh, freaking Smash Bros. The Super Mario World throwback known as New Super Mario Bros U was a great way to kickstart the console. Given the lack of info about other first party titles so far, it's safe to say Nintendo's gonna rock at the next E3. Believe it! He is pretty much stating the obvious/inevitable. The tone makes it sound like "Oh no, Nintendo is in trouble, they have to announce some big titles to compete herp a derp a der" Interesting to note, NPD numbers came out today. Wii U saw a 40% INCREASE in sales in February. Not too shabby considering no games were released. 57k + 40% = 78.9k. The upswing as started.....I hope. (I mean....March has a bunch of games releasing....) Is this gonna be the year of stating the obvious. Maybe Gamestop needs staff that doesn't steal a million dollars. Stating the obvious, but I can't entirely disagree. You know what else would help? Competing in a world that doesn't have a chain of video game stores that have a monopoly on used game sales, focuses things so that only games they want succeed in the industry, and consistently steal money from publishers and designers with their used games cartel. Oops. Surprise? How about being in GS today and one of the clerks trying to talk a potential customer out of buying a WiiU ?? Not the first time I have witnessed that before either. You mean rehashed ips again ? The console isn't even selling well unfortunately. I just want to second the thought of Atomic in post #18. I think this newngeneration of consoles will have slowernthan expected adoption. I dont think it will help ghat both ps4/nextbox comin out atsame time will help. Second even though both consoles have like 70mil installed base I and many other own both, I actually have 2 x360 and 2 ps3 becauseni have a media room and an arcade. So the universe of console purchasers is likely not as big as the number of units sold would indicate. While x360 is pretty much done, Sony saidmstill many major ps3 releases still coming like last of us and that heavy rain follow up, andmaybe new GT game. I havent even gotten to ME3, Skyrim and AC3 yet, am currently playing TR and new Sly game and eagerly awaiting MH on wii-u. So sure I will buy all next gen systems in due course but while Sony and Microsoft struggle with launch drought I will likely be playing some good Wii-U and ps3 stuff this cmas andnwait to 2014 to buy most likely ps4 as I think microsoft is in trouble because yhey dont have much first party other than Halo and Nintendo and Sony have lots ofgreat IPs I look forward to. Thenbad economy another factor, so a likely $300 wii-u pro bundle this xmas going up against $500 for other systems will start to look pretty good to parents especially when so many good games will be out.....oh yeah Sony already leaking new games will be $70 so if wii-u can keep games at $60 that will be another plus.. I'm joust waiting for some titles to play with: Bayonetta2, Wondefull101,Pikmin3.
Actually, my Wii U is an empty container, turned off, with a bit of dust on it. Just for that comment... Gamestop you just lost my WW HD sale and Mario Galaxy 3 Sale. Say one more thing like that then and you'll lose SSB and Zelda U in January. ToysRus say thank you to gamestop they just made you cash. Hey, believe me, I'm as upset as the next guy about the lack of games. You'd think Nintendo would have learned its lesson from the 3DS, but it seems they haven't. In all fairness, my non Nintendo fan freaked out when I first showed him Chase Mii in Nintendoland. People who experience WiiU love it, but it needs games. Not having demo kiosks definitely IS a big deal. I know my Target doesnt have one either. Pikmin 1 and 2 both sold over 1million on GC a system that sold 21m lifetime. Which is about 5-9% of the install base conbined Lego City Undercover
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Game & Wario
Wii Fit U
Yoshi Yarn
Bayonetta 2
Mario Kart Wii U
Super Mario Wii U
Xenoblade 2
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem Retro Studio game is a game that everyone them to make. That is Metroid Prime 4. That more and better than what we know of PS4.
Killzone Shadow Fall
inFamous Second Son
Drive Club I wonder if Xbox doesn't sell well until COD, Gears, or Halo hits it if people are going to freak out, haha! I didn't find the PS4 line up too interesting, there's a realistic head and then some games that look a little better than games you can get on PS3.... okay that's a trailer? If it didn't say PS4 on the commercial most casual consumers probably would have thought those were all PS3 games! Maybe they got a megaton announcement for holidays but I don't think PS4 will have the buzz everyone expects. Every freakin' time a Sony console is coming out people think it's just gonna own like the PS2 and every darn time it doesn't meet expectations. Oh and Nintendo is always doomed to go third party publisher by the way, since the days they were supposed to surrender to Sony even, lol! My main point being we're comparing Wiiu to last gen, this gen is going to be a whole different can of worms because the industry is struggling in general and no one knows what the adoption will be of Any of the major consoles. Gamestop is right on the money. The Wii U needs to be better communicated to the public, and needs more games. Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, and Lego City: Undercover should all help, but I don't think the Wii U will really take off until the holidays when Wind Waker and Mario Kart will likely be released. I hate it how people keep whining "The Wii U should have more games" "Wii U doesn't have many games" JUST STOP IT!!!
MANY GAMES FOR WII U ARE COMING THIS YEAR! SPECIALLY FIRST APRTIES! You have Pikmin 3,Mario Kart U,A New Mario 3D,Wind Waker HD! And maybe other games! OH RIGHT! Pokemon Rumble U! YOU JUST HAVE TO WAIT!
sheesh.. I can't stand the marketing for the Wii U. If people still think that the Wii U is an accesory for the Wii, isn't it obvious that Nintendo needs to advertise it with a clear message that "This is not a Wii; it's an entirely new console with HD graphics and a gamepad." Something as simple as that would be enough to get the message across. Of course first party titles will sell this system. Mario Kart, 3D Mario, HD Zelda, and SUPER SMASH BROS. will be crucial. I'm still waiting for a good Wii U game... Their stance on advertising baffles me as well. They keep using "Wii U is something you have to experience to understand" as a excuse, but you need to give people a reason to take interest and want to experience your product. You can't just expect your product to market itself. If people really are that confused about Wii U being a Wii add-on then make an add about that. The Wii U definitely needs more games to attract more customers but the early adopters knew what they were getting themselves into. There aren't that many games too choose from but theres enough to get by if you aren't afraid to try something new. Xenoblade wiiU will be a big seller, also smashbros, mario 3D, The (epic) Zelda.
or a starfox game, and some great third party support.
and i hope a new Naruto shipuuden game will make its way to the wiiU
with a lot of characters to choose from can be easily done with the 25gig disc space.
i loved the naruto Gekitou ninja taisen series (clash of ninja)
they also have to bring a big metroid prime game.
Nintendo also have to do more advertising.
And in the next E3 they HAVE to show, smashbros Zelda (epic) and Zelda windwaker HD, also a new mario, and more from the new Xenoblade game for WiiU, they have to go all out with first party titles to blow us away and to hype the crowd again, to win the E3 and to win peoples hearts. that Nintendo listens to their fans.
and i think they are very slow in the Eshop part, just bring the games, like gamecube games, snes/nes games, arcade games, sega etc etc Nintendo has to show off with the power of the WiiU,
what i think would be great to have a full HD pokemon game. where u can also play online. but that wont happen i think. I think they should make that Wii U Pokémon HD the real hardcore Pokémon that everyone on Pokémon-Online is desperately waiting for. Infernapeking
Killzone Shadow Fall
inFamous Second Son
Drive Club The PS4 only has only 3 games at launch lol don't be silly it has twice as must as the Wii U launch titles, and most of them are playable at this years E3. The problem with nintendo, is that seem to be focusing a lot more to the 3ds than the wii u, when the 3ds is doing just marvelous right now: fire emblem and castlevania just explode the sales charts right now and luigi's mansion will do the same in a week; the eshop has lots and lots of games, megaman 3 just launched and harmoknight will help to make the eshop more solid than it is; the pikachu 3ds xl was one of the most anticipated versions of the console and we are just 1 week from its launch along with the new pokemon game; great games will be coming along as well: dkcr 3d in may, animal crossing new leaf in june, pokemon x/y in october, mario and luigi dream team in june or july and I think in the upcoming e3 nintendo will unveil at least 2 other powerful 3ds titles along with the demo of smash for 3ds and wii u. The 3ds is selling like crazy and it has a lots of games right now while the wii u desperately needs some attention because third party developers are just ignoring it. I'm not complaining about the 3ds receiving tons of attention, as a 3ds owner I'm flattered but as a potential wii u owner in the future, I'm worried that nintendo isn't aware that the wii u has software shortage right now. Smash bros won't launch 'til 2014, wind waker is another remake without release date, they keep promising pikmin 3 is near its launch but I don't see it coming, bayonetta 2 and wonderful 101 are in the same scenario and who could forget the rayman legends fiasco. They really need more solid dates for wii u games, otherwise nintendo will fall with their console, e3 is their chance of redemption. GameStop Wii U Marketing Strategy Has quot Not Broken Through quot To Consumers

GameStop: Wii U Marketing Strategy Has "Not Broken Through" To Consumers Nintendo Life

More first party titles will enable system to "take off" by Share: Earlier in the month, GameStop President Tony Bartel said Wii U sales had been slower than the company had anticipated and that the system . The games retailer recently had its post-earnings financial call, which has been reported on by . During the talks CEO Paul Raines stated that although Wii U sales during the launch in November exceeded the company's expectations, the figures since then had been "disappointing". Raines gave two main reasons why Nintendo has not managed to shift as many Wii U systems in 2013 as it would have hoped. The first is its marketing strategy, which GameStop says has "not broken through the way that it needs to", claiming consumers do not fully understand the features of the console and the GamePad: We still have an education process we need to go through. Reiterating Bartel's recent statements, Raines said Nintendo needed to bring more high quality first party titles to the Wii U. Though he admits is a blockbuster title, he said there had been little since then, meaning adoption of the new hardware remains relatively low. However, GameStop gave Wii U its full backing during the talks, with the company saying the system will "take off" with the addition of more first party titles. Nintendo will soon be releasing and has several other games in the works, such as , a new 3D Mario, a new Super Smash Bros. title and many more. What are your thoughts on GameStop's comments? Do you think the marketing strategy for Wii U could be improved? Let us know in the comments section below. [source , via ] Share: Comments ) Nintendo needs to show not only consumers how to use the system but developers as well GameStop's comments are absolutely correct. Well of course the people getting money for selling the console think it's not selling enough >.< Of course the people who pay money to buy the systems and then resell them for more in order to make a profit think it isn't selling enough when they aren't selling the systems they payed money for. I don't like using sarcasm to prove a point, but it isn't like Gamestop is getting these Wii U systems for free. I don't think it helped that the only demo was for Rayman Legends for so long. Now there is a NSMBU demo, but still no others. Was Rayman Legends really the best game to show off the Wii U to the average gamer? Why not Nintendo Land or NSMBW from the getgo if Nintendo titles are what really sell Nintendo systems? Doesn't make sense to me. I have been saying this for over two months, that the general public are unaware about the Wii U and the Wii U game pad. People are pretty stupid, so Nintendo needs to advertise how fun and cool the Wii U can be by showing off new games and features on TV, so they can get more exposure. Nintendo Direct is not getting the job done for informing casual gamers. Plus I still think Nintendo made a bad move in naming there new console the Wii U. The hole system overall looks way to similar to the original Wii. Seriously Nintendo needs to have better Ads for Wii U, people dancing in block rooms, is not helping in terms of sells and exposure. IKR the name ''Wii U'' makes people think its an add-on to the Wii.....Nintendo should have atleast named it ''Wii 2'', that would let a lot of people know that its totally different EX. PS-PS2-PS3----PS4 Nintendo really needs to show off the best of what the Wii U can do. Sure, advertising Mario is good, as people like Mario cos they're easy and accessible for newcomers, same with Mario Kart. But I reckon Nintendo needs to show off games that show what the Wii U is all about, specifically, the GamePad. For example, from what I've read, the GamePad screen for Lego City is practically just a map. While we all know the game is fantastic and one of the best Wii U games so far, there is no huge focus on GamePad, which is what puts people off. "Why bother buying a Wii U, when the rarely use the GamePad" Unfortunately, this is a phrase I've heard far too often, from my friends, family, random people on the train, hell, even people that own Wii U's seem to enjoy nothing more than slagging it off! The great thing about Nintendo is that they release their first party titles so far apart, is because they want them to be the best they can. Look how many times Twilight Princess and Smash Bros. Brawl were delayed, but it didn't stop it from them selling loads (not sure on the specific sales). My point is this; retailers and the buying public need to realise that Nintendo has always been like this. Since I've started being active in the video game community (since around 2004) everyone has always agreed that Nintendo are terrible when it comes to advertising. I mean seriously, getting Penelope Cruz to advertise the first 3D Mario handheld?! Who's drug induced idea was that?! But the fact that Nintendo always manage to stay two steps ahead of the competition, means that people should stop worrying. Nintendo have a plan, they've always had a plan. Lol I agree with your last comment also [just colorful blocked rooms] Lol For me, there's a few things Im not overly excited about: -The Kiosks. Very ambiguous and not immediately interactive or demonstrative. White was a poor choice of gamepad color as it associates too much with the Wii. Also the sticks get grubby looking. -TV launch ads. Too much imagery from that Sing Party game with the gamepad held like an oversized smart phone. They were just confusing and tried to be too hip and flashy. -The tablet description. One of my friends was disinterested in a Wii U as he thought it was just tablet gaming. It has a touch screen yes, but its not tablet gaming. They needed to not throw that word around. This time the "hey it's a tablet!" is again confusing and not working. I love my Wii U and NintendoLife keeps me from being confused about Nintendo products. Sadly there's still a lot of potential NL users out there who are not as informed. For those people I make these points. I agree with you that the Wii 2 would have been a better name for the system. Marketing is bad. Even the "tech" blog type sites REVIEWING the system don't understand what they have. As far as my local gamestop, the culture there was anti-nintendo long before the Wii U came out. good point about the Wii U Kiosks. Since Nintendo chosen the White Wii U to be displayed in there Kiosks, to the casual or uninformed the Wii U may just look like a Wii with a new tablet controller add-on, and not a new gaming console. yeah, it's the first thing I thought after walking into Walmart on launch day. I thought "what!? white?! no, Nintendo use the black!" lol lol, Nintendo is marketing the Wii U? All aboard the doom & gloom bandwagon, YAY! (cut to Kaz Hirai riding a flying PS4, with Nightwish's Ghost Love Score playing in the background) You don't say... Idk I think GameStop can also try to demonstrate the Wii U more to its customers. I been to more then 6 different GameStop in the past two month that have WiiUs that are not even on. Then again it would be nice to try out a game that wasn't Rayman and videos of other games. Eww. Wii 2? How about changing DSi into DS2 and 3DS to DS3 while you're at it. But seriously. Wii U is a good enough name. I can't speak for others, but I haven't bought a WiiU because of the insane lack of software. Mature games: Mass Effect 3, Batman...oh wait I beat those before the system came out... Blockbuster games: Article claims New Super Mario Bros, I say the only blockbuster title is ZombiiU. Upcoming first party Titles: Pikmin 3 (YAY). A new 3D Mario game (when?), Smash Bros 4 (when?) So I'd effectively buy a system for 4 games. One came out on launch, the other isn't out yet, two have almost nothing known about them. Nintendo, why didn't you learn from the 3DS launch about first party titles? Pikmin 3 and the 3D mario game should have been LAUNCH titles. The DSi is not the successor over the DS (the DSi is a dumb upgrade and nothing more), the 3DS is the successor over the Nintendo DS, so tactically the Nintendo 3DS is the DS2. This is not about what name you think is better for the Wii U, it's about helping the public to understand that the Wii U is not some add-on from the original Wii. Wii 2 would translate better to the general public that this is the true successor over the Wii. As much as I hate gamestop with a burning passion, I'm afraid they're right. In the bluntest way possible no one is going to be interested in a system that has nothing but year old ports, and lackluster multiplats. My Top 7 Most Wanted Wii U Games (in no particular order):
-Super Mario (Wii U)
-New Super Mario Bros. U
-Mario Kart (Wii U)
-The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
-Super Smash Bros. (Wii U)
-Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
-Pikmin 3 Once more games are available I'll really get into my Wii U. ...So glad I got my Lego City with my Need For Speed on the way. If the other systems released a game as addictive like Monster Hunter instead of bro dudey rubbish then I might agree with what everyone is whinging about I rented a blu-ray today and was asked if I kne it was a blu-ray and if I had a blu-ray player. This is the consumer base nintendo is dealing with , especially, if the want the casual audience of the Wii. *knew and *they...typing on gamepad No popular good games = no sales. More games, and better advertising. Then the system will sell, even without a price cut. Where I live people don't know what Wii U is but everyone knows PS4 is coming. Talk about very bad marketing. I have seen a sign in a local shop that says "Wii U games don't work on Wii". I understand all the "no more gloom and doom" comments above but, for me at least, it's depressingly refreshing to see someone in the industry say what we've all been saying on the web - the Wii U needs more advertising and games to sell more - rather than calling for a price cut. It is not only about new games but also about availability. I have 3 stores in town which are selling games. The gameshop did only get half of what he ordered for Lego Undercity en the other stores didn't get the game or only some. "Nintendo will soon be releasing Pikmin 3" Not soon enough for those expecting it at launch or in the "launch window". I'll even go as far as saying this game CAN'T be out soon b/c soon would imply, well soon, and a title this big will need at least 1 month before the release date to allow for advertising and pre-orders. I'm sticking with Sept. w/ the date announced at E3, and no way no how is Sept. soon when you're still in March looking for games. Is it really that complicated...? I still remember how the "Wii would like to play" advertisements made me want a Wii so badly, and there weren't really that many good games for it at the time. The combination of a truly novel way to play games and good marketing made people want it. I think Nintendo believed that another novelty was needed to sell systems. And I suspect it actually works quite well when people try it out, but Nintendo never looked at it from the perspective of the general public. People would understand things like "Mario in HD" or "new, improved motion controls that don't lag like Kinect," but the GamePad is difficult to market. Nintendo can get past this failure with good games and marketing of those games, which is the strategy that worked with the 3DS once they figured out that 3D alone would not sell systems. Wii U has a fighting chance. I didn't want a 3DS when it first came out, as I thought it would hurt my eyes and the games didn't appeal. Then Ocarina of Time came out around the same time I heard there would be another Luigi's Mansion and I caved, even at the higher price point. It might help if gamestop would actually put wiiu games on display, I need to actually play on a machine before I decide to buy it, and every gamestop I have ever been to either has the Wii u turned off or won't display it at all. the marketing just isn't there and doesn't really specify anything enough about it. Just a friggin blank screen that says "it's not a Wii, it's a new HD game console" would be enough, but the name alone has kind of ruined that. Then theres the deeper problems with it not being ready enough and the look of all the new games that are just 'smoothed out' Wii mario games, not truly more detailed looking. I played it early on and sadly the 1st party games just looked like upscaled wii games. There was no killer app at launch and now it's a tough catch up game. People NEED to see that the Wii is ready for todays tech; the Wii was great to innovate motion tracking and show that HD was not everything then, but realtime HD gaming is now just PAR for every game now so it looks cheap not to really push past basic HD resolutions with the same tired models. I have to say I LOVED Skyward sword but it was already feeling just a bit stripped down for today; Nintendo needs to step up its modeling details and get the online stuff really working great to stay in it this time; theres still hope but once the other consoles come out there's no more time to mess around. Maybe that tablet controller is just not as innovative/good as some people think. I personally don't see the point of it other than the convenience of changing gear, look at a map etc. just like my 3DS. So far when I tried the Wii U like Rayman Legends, it was really jarring to look at a nice big screen and all of a sudden continue the game play on the small screen. Or lifting up the controller to scan your surroundings in Lego City I don't need the exercise when I'm trying to relax with a game. I also laughed at Polygons first impression of the Wii U, where the guy stated that when he played Nintendo Land he didn't even need to look at the big screen, and called it very innovative lol. There is absolutely nothing innovative about it, the DS/3DS already has a second screen, and to base a whole systems selling point on the controllers screen is just misguided. Marketing strategy? The Wii U doesn't have any amazing exclusive games that sell systems, partially the reason 3rd parties are not supporting it despite Nintendo wanting them to. I mentioned the Wii U to a friend of mine, who adores everything Nintendo, and she asked me if "that was the touchscreen thing that is a new accessory to the Wii"............ Nintendo REALLY needs to get the word out better if even people interested in their products don't even have a clue what it's about. People aren't stupid they Know what a Wii U is and these same people jumped on the motion control train with the Wii. And most probably will they will stay until the next fad, you also have to remember these same people also own tablets, mobile phones etc. When the Wii hit there wasn't a console based around motion control so the console was different to anything else, the Wii U on the other hand you can compare to a tablet. But unlike a tablet the Wii U is not portable, you also have to remember casual gamers haven't got a big attention span they'll jump from one thing to another. The kiosks suck because there are no games in them. Nintendoland should be in the tray and you should be able to at least see miiverse. They had 12 kiosks at the Nintendo World Store (with rayman and videos) and 4 actual systems with Nintendoland, and guess where everyone was lined up? Just found this kind of amusing from the Injustice official site ... "Injustice: Gods Among Us will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and WiiU system from Nintendo." ... the fact they had to point out, of the three listed, the one that belonged to Nintendo. Yeah, something's not right. I have to admit when I heard the name wiiu I was completely confused and disapointed. Every nintendo home console has had a unique name that showed that it was new (okay super nes but the wordsuper easily showed that it was more powerfull and therefore new) Wii u just screamed more of the same to me even though I knew it was a new and powerful console. and a lot of people don't realize itsnew. Just a couple days ago at gamestop people were confused of why wiiu games wouldnt work on their wii. I could even argue that 3ds wasn't enough of a name change as my cousin bought a dsi because he thought the 3ds was just a ds that offered 3d. But as the 3ds has taken off I believe that people will start to get it as time goes on for wiiu. Just could have been faster I think if it was a different name Gamestop may be known for stealing your wallet and kicking you in the face while your down the second you enter one of their ROACH INFESTED stores but at the end of the day they know how to do business and they are absolutely right. LISTEN UP NINTENDO!! A large part of Nintendo's demographic is children and families, people who don't stay up to date on gaming news or details on what hardware they're using. The name "Wii U" lost them a TON of sales in the first place because people didn't know it was a different system or thought it was just a new version of the system, like the DSi.
TV ads should be a bigger part of their advertising campaign if they want to sell the system. I think he's right. Most people don't know what miiverse or tvii is. GameStop Accused of Re Printing Xenoblade Chronicles Then Selling as quot Used quot For $90

GameStop Accused of Re Printing Xenoblade Chronicles Then Selling as quot Used quot For $90

GameStop Accused of Re-Printing Xenoblade Chronicles, Then Selling as "Used" For $90 Nintendo Life

A product monopoly gone too far? by Share: took its sweet time coming to the Wii in North America, with Nintendo eventually publishing as a limited release on the Nintendo Store and through GameStop. It had been long anticipated and clearly sold well for the available stock, as it reportedly became hard to find and rare after launch. Naturally, its rarity has allowed private sellers on websites such as eBay to charge premium prices for second-hand copies, but in an interesting development GameStop is being accused of printing new stock and branding it as "used", before promptly slapping a $90 price on copies, as shown on its at the time of writing. has been in contact with a source that states "the retailer printed a few thousand copies of the game with no shrink wrap" to restock this inventory. It seems that consumers have noticed the sudden emergence of stock in plenty of GameStop stores, in marked contrast to previous long spells of copies being tough to find. Posts around the web — such as on — point to evidence of a reprint (such as different cases being used) and assert that these used copies often feel new, with unused Club Nintendo codes also common. GameStop is yet to provide comment beyond saying that it is being looked into, and it would be cynical indeed if new copies were being printed and distributed as "used" at high prices. If the story develops we'll update this article. Please note that some external links on this page are affiliate links, which means if you click them and make a purchase we may receive a small percentage of the sale. Please read our for more information. [source ] Related Games Share: Comments ) I wouldn't put it past the store that cons you out of used games for pennies on the dollar. Everybody should have got it day one. Gamestop- We just happened to stumble upon this mass of used Xenoblade games just conveniently together and unwraped Wait, is the implication that GameStop somehow printed the copies themselves? I don't think that's possible. I think these ARE reprinted, as the photos I've seen show the inside of the case branded with the Nintendo logo instead of the Wii logo, but I doubt GameStop could feasibly reprint these themselves, so Nintendo would have to have been involved. But yeah, it's pretty terrible that they're marking it up to capitalize on the demand, but unfortunately they're not TECHNICALLY doing anything wrong. Once GameStop purchases those copies from the publisher they're free to do what they want with them, so opening and selling them as used isn't breaking the law. It's not like they're selling clearly used copies as new, which IS illegal. It's really unfortunate all around. It's a crappy move, but it's hard to complain because they're really not doing anything wrong, they're just being jerks. I've also been to a lot of GameStops that are staffed by really cool people (and I've worked there!) so I hate to see the entire company painted as a bunch of money-grubbing thieves. But anyway, now I need to run out and pick up The Last Story and Pandora's Tower before THOSE disappear and this happens again. Those cheeky little buggers...... GameStop needs to go I really wanted to play this game but didn't b/c GS had it as an exclusive. Not b/c I hate GS, I'm actually a Pro member, but this is what happens when you have monopolies. So I'm not surprised at all if this is true. I also wouldn't be surprised if it's false and GS was just hoarding all it's returns until it thought it could charge $90 each for them. But they probably did reprint them. Why wouldn't they? Can anybody recall any other game ever selling above MSRP at Gamestop? Surely some Mario or Zelda game must have been in high demand and they may go for MSRP but I don't recall ever seeing anything like this before. Good thing I got it from Nintendo's official store when it was still there. I will never support a used game from Gamestop because of shady practices like this. I don't know what the hell Nintendo was thinking, letting Gamestop of all places to be the exclusive retailer to have it. Now they're getting almost all profit off a new game. Actually yeah, I've seen lots of rare games go for above MSRP as used copies at GameStop. The Zelda Collector's Edition for GameCube, Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Disgaea for PS2 spring to mind, although I know I've seen more. Does Nintendo make money off of these copies? If that's the case, and assuming this is true, then Nintendo will not be happy about it. That seems to be the implication, so I tried to be careful with wording — "accused" but not definitively proven — and quoted the source article directly. Of course, GameStop like all companies will have a lot of cool people working for it, that's often the case. Unfortunately corporations themselves are often uncool, and it should always be remembered that people aren't defined by the actions of their employers. wish i could have found one of these copies.Really want to play xenoblade. If anyone (let alone Gamestop) was printing games for the Wii that Nintendo didn't OK it and weren't making money off of it, they would be committing Piracy. I doubt a multinational company like Gamestop would take such a risk of breaking the law for a few thousand dollars. So, first a half-crap trade in program, and now this? Ay ay ay... The fact that Gamestop, a game store that specializes (makes the majority of their profit) in used games, was given the contract for sole distribution made this possible. If proven, all it will do is reduce the value of the used game much like Nintendo reprinting the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Edition game. Metroid Prime Trilogy currently sells for $85 used at GS. What really baffles me is if this is true, why would they sell them used? Why not leave them sealed and sell them as new, as the would be worth more new (Amazon currently has Xenoblade listed for $130). I just don't get it. The comments on Kotaku suggested prices of new games were set by the system so would be RRP at most, but they can se their own prices for used copies (as some stores might have excess copies of some games so would have to price it lower to get rid of it). I hate Game and their high prices in the UK but I have never seen them sell old games for above RRP. I'm trying to wrap my head around this. Does this indicate that Gamestop kept copies of the game away from consumers, then when the game went out of print, brought a bunch out and labelled them "used" at what I'm guessing is $90 USD, which is $40 more than your usual Wii title there, right? Guh, so much suck. Wouldn't surprise me at all. I got this at launch from the Nintendo store online. So happy I did. I would snap it up at that price for sure. When it released in Australia it cost $99... Now you can't even find a preowned copy anywhere here If Nintendo promptly localized it in the first place this would have never of happened. It still angers. They are sitting on mounds of cash and couldn't throw a bone to there legions of fans. Nintendo would wonder where their thousands of dollars in the cut from all those games came from. Selling used, however, means it is none of Nintendo's business, if the games actually were used. This is Nintendo's fault, not gamestop. I understand the implications for gamestop, but this is a recurring habit for Nindi. They need to meet demand or be fined by the U.S., because these keep turning into oligopolies. I went ino my local GameStop and saw it for myself. I should have bought it and sold it back on eBay. That's cheaper than what I paid in May. I spent $112.53 on my AMAZING copy of Xenoblade. It's my favorite game! but as I found out under one employer in Canada, you are completely legally responsible for what you do under instruction from your employer, even if you have no idea it isn't correct. I don't understand. Gamestop isn't a publisher, so how are they getting the actual game discs? Are we saying that Nintendo are providing the discs and Gamestop are reprinting the packaging? Or that Gamestop are duplicating discs themselves now, and selling technically pirated software? Or, did they just keep a bunch of stock back at launch to sell as "used" later on? Remarkable and uncharacteristic foresight by Gamestop, if the latter is the case. Not being deliberately stupid, I just genuinely don't understand how this is supposed to have been done, and how Nintendo aren't having any fingers pointed at them. Ive had three copies, two unopened. Im happy. One of the best games EVER. Cant wait for X. However I do find it weird that an influx of this game just appears I'm not too surprise at Gamestop for doing this. Heck what If they do this to Super Mario All Star's Wii. Admittedly, this is a change of pace for Gamestop as they're selling a new game as used. Company bashing aside, this is a very strange occurrence. I would love to hear the true story behind this. Seeing as I'm not a detective though, I have to let others do the investigating. : Or if Nintendo just threw it and other high demand, tough to find games on the Wii U eShop with support for all control options (don't even have to include anything on the GamePad screen) and make stories like this one non-existant. I feel like of they did this it would be easier to find a copy. I sadly still haven't gotten this game - Thanks for the info. Ya its very rare to find the game here and seeing as they sell it for €60+ online used is too much for me to bite into. exactly. I picked up a "new" copy of marvel super hero squad for ds and they tried to give me an open copy. I refused walked out and havent been since. Also if u dont think they take home and play those used copies therefore reducing the value further but keeping the used priced as is your mistaken. And if you ever were told they didnt have the cash equivalent to give for a trade in your mistaken as well.
Oh if you live near hellertown pa and hav a copy of pandoras tower ill gladly trade my chronicles for it. The only reasonable thing is that gamestop had unsold games that they just found out they had and they are selling them has used. A reprint would be too expencive for just a few copys. There is loads of counterfeit games about. (I have seen them in Grainger Games in the UK even marked as DS Lite only). It is not easy to tell (If they sold the genuine box with a counterfeit cart (And kept the legitimate one)) it would be even harder. I think for things like this Nintendo should find a way to get it onto the eshop. (Same with highly counterfeited or rare DS games that cannot be bought new). I only buy new really. And from proper places. (Not From Amazon Markeplace or Ebay). Woah, $90? I haven't picked it up yet, and at that price they can forget it. A reprint does not cost them much at all actually, DVD costs cents, at most 5 dollars a copy including packaging, especially since they priced it at 90 bucks which they are advertising is something they never do for used games.. Someone did a reprint of the most expensive TG16 game now you can get one of those as a bootleg for £5 (Original is still over £1000) It is a bootleg basically and if they have done it they should be hammered far more in court than any of the flashcart sellers. (Probably won't work out like that though it rarely does when it is a company that is seen as ok). How is it not possible? CD burner, blank box and a printer. Man I'm glad that I got mine when it came out, Its been about a year and a half and I'm only half way through (just finished the prison area). I'm curious if its going to be so high in value in a couple of years. You never know with these things, sometimes they rocket in value and other times they plummet. Explain the working Club Nintendo codes, then. If Gamestop was the sole distributor, they may have had spare codes lying around. Or, Gamestop may be authorized to generate codes on their own. Not sure exactly how the codes get generated, but thousands of copies of the game just pop up out of nowhere? Sounds like they're just printing them to me. Thousands does sound a little bit outrageous here, but I will say that I saw an email from Gamestop (and received a phone call) not too long ago offering quite a bit ($50 or so) for the game. Maybe due to this they had an influx of people selling their used copies?? I'm not trying to defend them here, but this just sounds too unbelievable on so many levels. I think you're greatly overestimating things here. Why would GameStop, a multi-billion dollar company, risk EVERYTHING by printing and selling bootleg copies of a game distributed by one of their biggest supporters? If these WERE bootleg copies, Nintendo would SURELY find out about them because this is all over the internet. They'd be in for one HELL of a lawsuit. Then other companies would catch wind of it and stop supporting GameStop, because hey, what's stopping them from pirating OUR games and selling those too? You might not like GameStop as a business but there's no denying that's it's run by people who know what they're doing. They're not stupid. They wouldn't risk billions over making a profit on a couple thousand copies of Xenoblade. My guess is Nintendo did another small printing of Xenoblade (the new puzzle being added to the 3DS StreetPass would support this) and GameStop just said "hey we could make a LOT more on these if we sold them as used" and opened 'em up. Nintendo gets paid, GameStop gets paid, and everyone's happy except people who didn't buy Xenoblade the first time. So instead they're just illegally marking new titles as used? Haven't they already lost lawsuits for this? That's not illegal. Once something's open it's technically used. It's when they sell something that's used as new that the issue arises. There are a lot of former Gamestop employees on Kotaku's comments saying that basically they took a bunch of old stock they (somehow) had and then just opened them and marked them as new. Here's a comment by someone called Mit. (Of course this doesn't address why there are so many copies in the first place.):
"They only do this for games that have been in stock new for a very long time and still have not sold. They eliminate the 'new' SKU for the title entirely, and convert all the new copies to used copies. They then get a more attractive price (for the consumer, typically), and are subject to discounts/promotions/deals, and are thus, more likely to sell, because they were not selling before. The same thing happened here. The 'new' SKU for Xenoblade Chronicles was removed entirely. All copies of the game sold at GameStop are now 'used'. In this particular scenario, that means the product costs much more than the MSRP (and is also in line with the large trade-in prices they've been giving out for the game). By the way people, MSRP = Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price. Once a retailer purchases the product, they can do whatever they want with it, including opening it and selling it for a higher price. Also, no, they are not cutting out Nintendo from some kind of profits. Retailers pay up front for ALL new games. The publishers get paid immediately. It is then up to the retailer to sell them and make their money back + profit." It's about £38 from CeX in UK! I know the Wii was on the way out and it was a slightly niche title for a 'casual' gamers console but Xenoblade's limited number of US copies seems stupid to me. Nintendo should re-release Prime Trilogy, Skyward Sword and Xenoblade in HD on Wii U. All 3 of those games need an HD remaster more than Wind Waker and would all sell more consoles. Glad I pick it up day one. These kind of games are "first come, first served" so I don't know why people waited if they knew the game would be hard to find new then used. Wowzers! That's so, so, so wrong! & should be sooooo illegal! Bad GameStop, naughty GameStop! But what can we do? Probably nothing. Xenoblade Chronicles is such an amazing game (my favourite game of all-time) I highly recommend it at any price (I got around 192 hours out of it before I finished it but I still didn't complete the game! One day I will & I agree with , I'd love to see HD-Rereleases of some of the best Wii games (even though I've got them all I'd probably buy them all again haha). Personally I'd prefer them to be eShop only. I'm also looking forward to GCN games on Wii U VC, though with the Wind Waker HD coming out it doesn't bode well for them rereleasing gamecube games as VC releases (but I'm still greatly anticipating WW HD ). "They rip you off and don't care one bit" Game prices going up isn't a bad thing. Even if you normally can't afford new retail, you can just resell it after playing in those situations. Thanks for that! I knew that's how retail worked in the UK, but from reading forums over the years, I'd got the impression it worked differently in the US, but I think a lot of people just make wrong assumptions about money being sent to publishers after the sale is made. It sounded a bit weird to me, but I wasn't going to argue when I knew nothing about how it worked in another country. I'm kind of doubting they reprinted. Do you realize how much trouble they would be in? Someone at Nintendo of America would be able to tell wether those are fake copies immediately. I actually just so happened to see they had 8 in my state and was calling around to see which ones had instruction manuals and cases. I found one cheaper at a local deal, so I didn't end up buying one from GS. Who's accusing GS exactly? CEX are not the good guys they are responsible for the R4 card becoming mainstream. (I know the first time I heard about it was them trying to sell me one). Up until that point I knew stuff like that existed. (Like the Super Magicom for example). But I had never just seen it actually available and had someone try to sell it to me using high pressure sales tactics. (They still failed). Used is the reason we don't get hardly anything on budget labels these days. Just like 's #57 post. I just figured that's the sort of thing they were doing here. When I was calling around, some of them were missing instruction manuals. I don't really think they would open new copies to make them used and sell them at a higher price either. Once again everyone bashes a company for mere speculation. Typical day on the internet
My pleasure! People can be so ridiculous on the Internet in believing anything they hear and then just misconstruing it to no end.
In regards to the reprints, I just read an article on Penny Arcade Report that references the below article. Basically, there is a company called Game Quest Direct that buys the licenses to reprint games from companies and then sells them on their website and in bulk to Gamestop. Who knows if that is the case in this scenario (especially since I don't see Nintendo allowing anyone else to reprint their games), but it's obviously not out of the realm of possibilities.
Unfortunately the same has happened to me more than a few times. I've wondered why a lot of the "New" games I purchased from Gamestop didn't have Club Nintendo codes. Good thing this news is out there. No wonder the site shows every store around me having a few copies!
NINTENDO! ISSUE A FARKING OFFICIAL REPRINT ALREADY. Nintendo makes the most from new copies and gamestop makes the most from used copies, that's why the ps4 and xbox one had so many rumors of those systems banning used games
I know that. I was wondering if those copies were printed without Nintendo's permission. Again, these are just rumors. Reprint or not, I have no arguments on the price they set. I'm not going to defend everything that Gamestop does as a company, but this makes sense. If they were to price it around $50, you can bet that a vast majority of the buyers would be those intent on reselling the game for profit, which the game easily sells for $100 online if in good condition. If they didn't set a high starting price, those individuals who would actually want to play the game would be right back where they were before these copies surfaced, resorting to eBay and Amazon. As FiveDigitLP mentioned, there are many opportunities to cut that $90 price tag down to $70, or even $60 if you know how to work the current promotions and are a PUR Pro member. When you factor that into it, it is a pretty good deal, especially since you can easily return the game if you don't think its worth that much (can't say that so easily about other online sites). And I would say with my time so far, the game is definitely worth $70 or more. Hate GS if you want to, but all they are doing is taking more profit for themselves away from those who are intent on flipping copies by setting a higher initial price. So, hold on a sec... is the accusation here that Gamestop - who is not a publisher - is printing discs and manuals, packaging them and selling them? As far as I know, they are not a publisher and do not have publishing rights. If this is the accusation, it's a pretty big one because it would be piracy of the most heinous kind, given their relevance in the retail space. If this is the accusation, I highly doubt they are doing this. The risk is simply too high for a publicly traded company. The risk is basically a law suit (or law suits) that would shut them down. All over capitalizing on a tiny spike in niche demand. My bet is that GS actually started pushing higher trade-in prices for this game with some local promotions to get people to trade their games in. And there's your influx of new used games appearing on shelves. And unless someone tells me that out of 50 games, 50 all had unused Nintendo Club codes, this is not news. I have bought several used games with unused Nintendo Club codes. Besides the fact, GS does not issue the club codes. LOL! that's simply silly to think GS could create new codes. If THAT is true, then Nintendo has to be involved as well. Or, the publisher may have started up a short run for new distribution to GS. There could also be reasons why they can't sell them as new based on how the discs or manuals were replicated. This is a pretty big accusation. And this all based on an "observed" new infusion of used gmes on the market? I'm sure there is an explanation oh for pete's sake, i knew i got rid of my tin-foil hat too soon. everything is a freakin' conspiracy :/ iirc (and i've probably still got it sitting in my inbox) they sent out a mass e-mail a while back saying they were giving full original retail price (or nearly) for Xenoblade trade-ins, my guess is this was the result. People are talking about boxes being different and blah-blah-blah, but when it comes to GS you're lucky to even get a box with your game almost, they switch boxes around all the time. If it took you this long to pick up on the fact that Xenoblade is an amazing game and you should own a copy, I'm sorry, but you deserve to pay the $90 GS is asking (and lord knows how much it's going on eBay and Amazon for) for a legit copy. It's nothing they haven't done before; i remember back in the day when GS/EB did used SNES games and stuff like Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, and FFVI would go for a serious premium. They're not stupid and they know what prices rarer games will sell for. This is one of them. Well, that's just plain unreasonable. Not everyone can do that. Aaaanyway, GameStop lost my respect years ago, when they gave me $6.00 for a $20.00 POPULAR Wii title. Oh wait! That was BEFORE I NEVER EVER got my pre-ordered copy of Galaxy. Which was also before they tried to give me $1.00 for FRICKIN' MARIO KART! I strongly suspect they were under substantial pressure to be a pain in the Tanooki Tail. LOL! Just as I surmised in my post above just before yours. There's your reason folks! Thank you for the voice of reason black dragon. My question is how does this article appear in Nintendolife? I'd expect a higher degree of vetting from this site. LMAO. Too funny. Nintendo should just release this game on the eShop already. There's obviously a demand for it.
You do know people go into GameStop and take the codes out of game cases on the shelf, right? That doesn't make much sense if it's shrink wrapped.
I'm thinking they just held onto trade-ins until they could sell them all at once. The GS employees I talked to in my area regarding this game said they had the original case, but no instruction manual, or none of it at all. The discs without cases had the GS reprint cases. This regular stuff. We might as well accuse them of every single used game they ever sold back in 6th gen where it seemed impossible to find complete copies sometimes. Who knows, though... Im glad i got this day one, though that is true. My local gamestop keeps reminding that I own Xenoblade Chronicles and i can get 49.99 USD$ if I trade it back. I would never do that because I asked how much they sell it for now, which is 89.99 USD$. That to me is a pretty big rip off. I never trade games in with them.
Interesting story though, Im glad I went out and got it day one, though I never was given the extra stuff for preordering xenoblade chronicles for some reason... Are you sure this is true? I did not think stores could print anything. They order the games from companies and I thought the companies send them companies from there manufacturers they use. GameStop does usually not send used games in their normal cases. The only thing they did was order cases and printing the the slips in the cases. Nintendo would not be down with this so you guys really need to make sure this is true because it just sounds false. I dislike them more for letting me think I was getting a good deal when I was given £5 for MGS:Twin Snakes but I can't knock the fact they sent me a couple of brand new sealed games (Other M and Manhunt 2) complete with Club Nintendo points for £4.50. R4 cards would be popular with or without CeX. As much money as they've been racking on the used game market, I suppose they might actually have the means to have professional reprints unofficially made. And there is something wrong with sell "new" product as used because (as it's been said umpteen times) the game companies don't get squat from used sales. I blame Nintendo, not Gamestop. Had they actually just released Xenoblade in the US like a normal game none of this would be an issue (the game is still relatively easy to find here in Europe). It's a crying shame that they treated such a masterpiece (easily one of the best games of the generation) like some niche title not worthy of a proper release. Nintendo needs to do another round of Nintendo Selects that includes Xenoblade, Mario Galaxy 2, Skyward Sword, and Metroid Prime Trilogy. Anyone want to buy mine for $85? If Nintendo and Atlus did an official reprint, they definitely didn't give GS the go-ahead open the games, mark them as used, and mark the price up to $90.So Gamestop either did something legally fishy, or just morally wrong. Either way, I think I'll be buying my games from Target for a while. Glad I reserved mine and bought it at launch, though I haven't even had a chance to play it yet, to tell the truth (too many games to play!). I figured I owed it to Operation Rainfall to support the game and I'm sure I'll enjoy it somewhere down the road... I've went to gamestop to buy games before and they pull out a game that is supposed to be a new game but the shrinkwrap is missing. I say I don't want that game it's been opened and they tell me its the only one they have but it's new. I tell them then i'm not buying it. They usually have an oh well attitude. I bet they sell used games as new all the time. I'm glad they got caught. My thoughts are some low level employees had some ideas about making some money, not approved by their management. They printed and used existing used copies and bundled them in used cases... Not hard to do. Who's at fault? The conditions were technically created by Nintendo when they didn't meet demand, in my opinion. Kotaku put up an article about 30 minutes ago with a statement from GS saying that they "acquired a limited stock of games like Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy, and the prices are based off of their prices on the internet."
This is awful, I'm glad I picked mine up before this whole mess of the game becoming rare. I originally picked up a crappy used copy with those annoying stickers on the front but I found out a Gamestop nearby still had 1 shrinkwrapped copy so I exchanged it for that one. Gamestop would take advantage of the rarity of a game like this. Honestly this doesn't surprised me with Gamestop. They are one of the crookedest businesses out there. They will sell you used games at new prices and than make up a story that the game was the store demo so some BS like that. Sorry but once you break the factory seal the game is used. I hope they go out of business, When that day comes I will laugh at them. Wow, I had no idea how much this game was going for on eBay. I'm glad I got mine for $50 when it came out. It doesn't seem like Nintendo made a whole lot of copies of this game so the price will probably go up a lot more in the years ahead. Plus the fact that Nintendo probably won't sell digital copies of Wii games for many years. $90 does seem way too high. I think the game is great (as long as side quests aren't a focus), so if you're willing to put that much money into a copy be my guest. I was obsessively hunting a pre-owned copy of this game locally for almost 6 months. Finally, one day I got lucky and bought it for $60 (pre-owned)...........Then it vanished completely for a couple months. Now this pops up.Something is definitely up. Every single Gamestop location by me has it in stock now. Hmmmmm. If this is true, this is some shady ish! There's definitely something wrong here. Xenoblade is not the type of game tons of people would simply trade in to Gamestop, let alone all at once. I would think Nintendo had a contract with them keeping them from charging more than $50 for a new copy, so calling new copies used, while complete and utter garbage, might be their way around that. That said, I can't imagine they're allowed to simply print more copies without Nintendo watching. By the way.....Club Nintendo code was still valid and the disc I bought was pretty darn clean looking. Makes me wonder if this is true or I got really lucky and bought from a very tidy previous owner. Metroid Prime Trilogy is next to be this way..... If you can find it. It is marked higher pre-owned than when it was new.
I recently lucked out and payed $65 for a pre-owned copy. It is now listed @ $85!!!!!! Update: I just read that this is in fact going to happen to Metroid Trilogy next. They are calling these games "vintage".....WTF!?!?! They aren't that old! It's seriously looking like a scheme to start overcharging for the harder to find releases.....like on ebay & amazon, etc. did you mean marked as used? All of that makes sense. Gamestop has the right to do that but is it moral? Many companies today are manipulating the market to set their own prices... Are we, as a society, really ok with that? I'm not sure what you're referring to in the first sentence, but if you're replying to comment #57, then most of that was actually me quoting someone else from Kotaku... That being said, I agree with the sentiment of what I quoted, though I probably wouldn't have been that harsh with my words. What GS is doing does seem a little shady, but if you go to Amazon you can see third party sellers listing both used and new games for extremely high prices as well. Are we upset then because Gamestop as a big corporation is doing this? I mean, the idea that they're (allegedly) not being truthful about the played-status of the games certainly seems wrong, but if these rumors are true, then people are getting new games when they thought they were getting used ones...? That doesn't sound like such a terrible thing to me. The only thing I can possibly see as really wrong here is that (as some have suggested) Gamestop is artificially inflating the price of the game by making it appear that the product is still limited, when in fact they have the ability to acquire reprints. There's still so much that is unknown about what the heck is even going on, though, so we can't really make too many assumptions.
It's because consumers give these games that value in the first place. The game sells for $50 new, and there aren't any more new ones(most of time) and everyone knows that. GameStop is only charging $90 because of word of mouth in the free market. I don't think these are reprints. I'm pretty sure, because I called around, but you'd really have to go in store and see what the case and stuff looks like. It seems more likely that a ton of kids bought the game, couldn't figure it out, lost the case and/or manual, traded them in, and now they're out there again. I bet no one even saw the case or anything, because there wouldn't be any accusations if someone actually saw the case, manual, and disc and confirmed they are real, assuming they weren't lost by the previous owner. Just go to GameStop yourself and have a look. I don't necessarily agree that they are reprints either. However, I do think they expected a high demand for this title further down the road and held on to some of the original stock to capitalize. For 6 months straight the closest copy was 94 miles away from me. Now, all of a sudden EVERY location has copies by me.....(and possibly elswhere)
Considering Gamestop is the Publisher for Xenoblade Chronicles in N America, I'd imagine they have the authority to reprint as desired, since they're footing the bill for it. It's Gamestop. It's not surprising. GameStop isn't the publisher, Nintendo is. GameStop is just the sole distributor. rolf! awesome No doubt the game is Vintage. That is what gamestop lists it as: I wonder when they will do the same on Last Story? The Last Story is still easily found brand new for $30 or less. Not a similar situation at all. I guess we're supposed to be glad Nintendo released these games at all, but it's still awfully lame to print so few copies that a year after release, new copies are gone and used copies are going for close to twice the original retail price. Obviously the demand is there, and Nintendo isn't making a dime off of the used copies, so why not print more? I just bought Xenoblade Chronicles used at Gamestop. It was brand new for sure. Not a single scratch or smudge on the disc and the box was clearly new too. I don't live in that area, but would you still be interested if I ship the game to you? I would pay for shipping and send you the game first, let me know if you are interested... I am so glad I got the game at launch for $50 which came with a cool art book!
I without a doubt think that this game would still be worth $90 with all the content it offers and is almost as great as Chrono Trigger. I think it sucks that Gamestop is profiting off of the rarity and success of this game ;c. i live on mountain and they dont ship here. Our postal service is a family in town in makes occasional treks to me nintendo is not responsible for other people's actions. Just cause they made it limited doesnt mean they have the right to copy the game and sell as used. They had a contract for the games they purchased. How is this not pirating? Gamestop is bad and it should feel bad. That's just funny... if it's true. Gotta take the "Kotaku heard from a 'source'" with a grain of salt. How is it Gamestop's fault that this game is going for $90 everywhere? Selling it for less would be a worse business decision. why are so many people here ridiculous? I guess everyone thinks they're owed something. Like I want a copy of skies of arcadia. its now roughly 75 dollars. I wish it was cheaper but its not. Oh well ill get it eventually. Oh or how about suikoden II? Thats like $120
They may not be the official publisher, but they did pick up shared costs of publishing duties, granting them exclusivity as a retailer. Nintendo didn't grant Gamestop exclusivity with regard to Xenoblade Chronicles just because they were feeling generous- Gamestop earned their keep with the almighty dollar bill. With that in mind, I'm sure Gamestop realizes the continued demand for Xenoblade, and is well aware of its current market price equilibrium, which is around $100 used. My guess is they approached Nintendo and negotiated a reprint. I just read a story that broke only hours ago which stated that Metroid Prime Trilogy is also coming back in stock at Gamestop- a game which conveniently also just had it's used price jacked up to $84.99 on Gamestop's website. I got $20 bucks that says Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn is next. This is a mixed bag. While it's good to get extra copies out to drive down prices in the secondhand market, the bad thing is it will drive down prices in the secondhand market. I'm a collector, and own 2 copies of Xenoblade, 2 copies of Metroid Prime Trilogy, and 2 copies of Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, one of them factory sealed. This cash-grab will lower the value of my rare copies by making them less rare. Unless there will be a way to tell the difference between a first run copy and 2nd run copy, which I seriously doubt. Well I am not sure what to say.. I don't think Gamestop can actually.. print or reprint a game... (Would that not be in league with piracy??) but if it's true that really flips my tails... There is something wrong with Gamestop... I did not like them.. (especially.. when the main clerk at my local Gamestop came out being a XBOX owner and made fun of everyone who bought games on other systems) the reason was they were selling copies of games that were used.. (Like New a lot of times grant you.. but still) as brand new games... (I remember they tried to do this to me.. I went back in there and got a refund.. I was so mad.. I refused another copy of the game) and then there was the time they charged me 5 dollars more for Zelda the Minish Cap... they said it was to help with the rent.. and they were doing it with all their games... funny thing was.. I watched them ring up everyone else.. and all the other games rang up exactly the price they were supposed to.. it was just me and two others that got Zelda they did this too.. I have not went to a Gamestop since.. ... sides I find better deals now online anyway.. You will be very glad that you just picked up the best RPG ever made Better than Morrowind? But the thing is Gamestop gave me a coupon for 35% off used games that expired a week ago. Close that corporate market, i always hated gamestop and never used it.
If they are doing by law they should close in a month, simple as that. This or we start doing private stores, they are some that are in trouble financially but others who have the finance to start one in good conditions don't even do it because gamestop overflows everywere. If you give a company monopoly it's only common that they will feel like doing what the want. I REPEAT, THIS IS ILLEGAL! thats ashame you were treated like that. I hear bad stories like these every so often. Did you ask for the district managers number? I would have. I have had great interactions with gamestop, back to when it was funcoland, babbages before it was gamestop and eb games before it was gamestop. Ive always been treated great. I personally appreciate the stores and what they offer me. Sometimes games traded in arent worth much. They usually give 45/50% of what they can sell the game for. At least thats been my experience. So if I only got a few bucks so what. Sucks it wasnt worth more but its not gamestops fault the game isnt worth much. Its sad customer service isnt stressed more and drop these elitist attitudes toward systems they dont prefer. But at the end of the day its just their opinion people cant let it rub them the wrong way. I use Vintage Stock for used games any more.. they usually have better prices on a lot of their games.. used.. if I go out at all.. and there really are not enough.. small companies.. or even people that want to start small companies now and days for various reasons.. not all of it is Gamestop's fault.. (I still do not like them..but just saying) It's to hard.. if you open a rental service.. you have to compete with RB and several places.. if you do new games.. your competing with everyone from Wal Mart all the way to Best Buy and Gamestop.. and if you do a retro shop then your competing with Vintage Stock and just about every flea market.. Pawn Shop, heck a lot of people don't even walk into places physically to do their retro game shopping.. it's easier on Ebay etc.. I know... and I did actually.. ironically.. especially on the Zelda thing.. I was told the exact same thing... and like I said.. I would have liked to believe them.. I just couldn't.. I mean how much extra was it?? And why make Zelda fans only pay for it?? and it was really sad for me... because before they were babbages software etc.. (I believe) and they had been there for quite sometime.. I had enjoyed shopping there.. since I moved there.. which was the PS era.. and N64... I bought all my games from there.. never had a problem.. but all of a sudden.. they just seemed to change.. when the new systems came out.. and they went to Gamestop... and I really don't know why... there was a few changes in the crew working there... but not so much.. that I would have thought to have that kind of experience.. I did not know if it was a companies policies.. or poor.. business ownership... or just a willingness.. to pull one over on the customer.. but they were never like that before.. I was very upset.. actually it depresses me to think about it.. I really loved my game shop.. thats just crazy and only on zelda games. Did you try going higher by any chance and email someone higher up in the company? Im not sure what else to say. Thats just bonkers. No.. and that may have been my fault.. I just made sure not to walk back in.. needless to say I was upset and licking some wounds... (Like I said.. everything was so good there before and I loved my Game Shop..so yeah it was my fault.. I got to emotional.. geez.. which I guess is stupid.. it's just that I had so many good memories in there.. and it was just really upsetiing) so anyway.. just did not go back.. well not to buy anything anyway... from what I understand when I am in there they have gotten a little better( at least they are no longer selling used as new.. or at least that is what my friends and cousin say).. but they still do the Zelda thing every once in a while.. but sometimes with other games now.. (They did it.. with Fire Emblem from my understanding from a cousin.. and she unlike me.. is/did go up to the very top.. I have not heard anything from her on it... (But needless to say.. she was okay with whatever the result was that she still shops there.. ) I just had to many things on my mind lately to ask.. (It's tough sometimes being a cornerstone to a huge family.. sometimes.. the only time I get a breather is when I am here.. ) Anyway.. I will have to ask her what the results were later.. GameStop actually hoarded a bunch of used copies of the game and is just now selling them. Also, as for all the inserts and the disc being in pristine condition? A ton of people do indeed take care of their games and do keep all the inserts in them.
As for the price they are selling it at? So what? If you don't like GameStop, just don't shop there, easy as that. Get the game off of Amazon or Ebay.
Do what I'm doing and get a hold of Nintendo and tell them your concerns.
People out there do take good care of their games. It's not rare for people to keep all the inserts and keep the disc in really good condition. The disc itself is perfect. I mean perfect, not even a smudge. The case looks great too but I will admit it has a little wear on it. That could have been because of the Gamestop I got it from was pretty........unclean and the workers did not seem to care about conditions. Gamestop just hoarding it is likely too sure. I decided to purchase a copy of the game after reading this article and mine came in today. Its literally perfect. The disc and case are perfect as well as the inserts. I even got 50 coins for registering the club nintendo code. If this isn't a reprint then it is the best looking used game I've ever gotten from Gamestop. I rarely buy used games but I have ordered 2 or 3 in the past and they all looked like crap. Only one came in the original case and all of the discs were scratched. I'm actually pretty happy about it though, I have been wanting this game and having the opportunity to purchase a virtually like new copy for 89$ was a good deal considering the circumstances. If their copies of Metroid Prime Trilogy are this nice I may drop some cash on that also. youll love the game. Im on my third play through in under 8 months. Yes, this post is quite old but I finally got a darn new looking used copy at GS for $44.99 + tax. I got my usual GS promo email but the 'Recommended for you' section had Xenoblade Chronicles case pic with $49.99 under it. If I clicked on it, it brought me to the GS website and it showed as $69.99. I printed a copy of the email showing it at $49.99, took it to my local GameStop which is ran by a good manager, and because of the printout, they overrode the price to $49.99 and applied my Power Rewards. Before tax, it was $44.99. If you happen to get that same email, just a few days before the date of this post, then give this a try! Also, if you check out ebay, copies are going closer to the $50-$60 range instead of the $80-$100 range with free shipping.
